Ten Years of Love Ended in the Delivery Room Chapter 09

Three years passed in the blink of an eye.

Damon never stopped looking for me during those three years.

One day, he made his way to a small southern town

As he passed by a cemetery, his footsteps came to an abrupt halt.

He saw a familiar figure not far away.

That figure was carved into his bones; one he would never forget.

It was me.

He almost stumbled as he rushed toward me. “Kaley!”

His voice was filled with the wild, desperate joy of someone who had just found something he had

lost long ago. “I finally found you!”

I turned at the sound of his voice. When I saw him, there was no emotion in my eyes, only cold

distance.

His gaze fell to the little boy holding my hand beside me.

The little boy had a round, cherubic face and the most delicate, finely drawn eyebrows and eyes.

Damon’s eyes lit up at once. He looked at me, surprise spreading across his face.

“I knew it! I knew they were lying to me back then! He’s our child, isn’t he?”

“Look how big he’s gotten, he looks exactly like I did when I was little.”

He reached out to touch the boy’s head.

I quickly pulled the boy into my arms and stepped aside.

My eyes were filled with nothing but disgust. “Don’t touch him. He’s my son. He has nothing to do

with you.”

Damon’s hand froze in mid air.

He thought I was still angry, still blaming him.

He quickly spoke up, his voice tinged with a pleading tone, “Kaley, I know I was wrong. These three

years have been hell for me.”

“I was kicked out of the Garner family. I lost everything. I’ve worked so many jobs and suffered so

much.”

“I know you’re still angry at me. Just come back with me, okay?”

“I’ve already made things right with the Garner family. If you come back, I can be their heir again. I’ll

my life.” make it up to you and our son. I’ll be good to you for the rest of

I looked at him, the corner of my lips curling into a cold, icy smile. “Make it up to me? Damon, with what could you possibly make it up to me?”

“My baby died three years ago. What could you possibly give me to make up for that?”

He froze and followed my gaze to the tombstone beside us.

The name carved on it was one he had repeated countless times, one etched into his heart.

It was the name of our baby, the one who had died hot long after being born.

Damon’s body shuddered violently.

He looked at the tombstone, then at the boy in my arms, his mind going completely blank. “No…

that’s not true… Then who is he…”

“I told you. He’s my child. He has nothing to do with you.”

My voice was cold as ice.

Damon staggered backward and dropped to his knees in front of the tombstone.

He lifted a hand, wanting to touch the name on the stone, but dared not.

Tears burst from his eyes at once. “Baby… I’m sorry Daddy failed you… Daddy is the one who killed

you. Can you forgive Daddy… please?”

“Kaley, I’m sorry… I really know I was wrong. Forgive me, please…”

He begged for forgiveness again and again to the grave, to me.

Just then, a gentle male voice came from behind me. “Kaley, what’s going on here?”

I turned around, and all the coldness left my face, replaced by a soft smile.

The man walked over and put an arm around my shoulders, shielding the boy and me.

The little boy’s face lit up at the sight of him. He immediately threw himself into the man’s arms

and called out in a soft, sweet voice, “Daddy!”

The man bent down, lifted the boy, and kissed his cheek.

Damon stared blankly at the family of three in front of him.

Only then did he understand. I wasn’t throwing a fit wasn’t waiting for an apology.

I had truly let him go.

I no longer loved him.

His entire world collapsed in an instant.

He sank to the ground, watching us, muttering over and over, “Kaley, don’t go. Kaley, forgive me…”

I looked at him, my expression calm. “Damon, I will never forgive you. Not in this lifetime. Not ever.”

With that, I took my husband’s hand, held our son, and turned away without looking back.

Damon deserved every bit of suffering he got.

The rest of his life stretched out before him, long and empty. And he would spend it drowning in

endless regret and longing.
