The Don’s Forgotten Wife Took Down His Empire Chapter 08

He sighed, and dragged a hand over his

eyes.

Right now, he had to admit it-he couldn’t live without me.

He grabbed his phone off the nightstand and called his right hand man.

“Go pick Mrs. Moretti up.”

Serena, who’d just woken up next to him, heard that and climbed onto his lap, pouting.

“Why are you picking her up already? It hasn’t even been three days!”

Looking at the clingy woman in front of him, for the first time Damian felt nothing but disgust.

His face went cold, hard as frost.

“I know exactly what you’re up to.

“But I already told you. Scarlett is always gonna be my wife. No one can take her place.

“If you behave, you can stay with me. If not, get out.”

He’d run the underworld for ten years. How could he not see through the little games this woman

was playing?

Normally he’d just write it off as a little catfight, attention-seeking.

But right now, it just made him sick.

When she saw Damian was actually angry, Serena didn’t dare say a word. She froze up, scared stiff.

Then a shrill ringtone cut through the tense, awkward silence.

His man’s voice came through, panicked. “Something’s wrong, Don. We can’t find Donna

anywhere. She’s gone.”

“What?”

Damian’s heart jumped into his throat. “How can a whole person just disappear?

“Keep looking! Search every inch!”

He hung up and rubbed the space between his eyebrows.

He ran through every place I could possibly be, then got out of bed.

“I’m going to the hospital.”

The whole drive over, Damian had a bad feeling twisting in his chest.

He kept praying I’d just left early and was at the hospital with my mom.

But when he walked into the room and saw the empty bed, his calm, steady control finally cracked.

When they heard Damian was there, the hospital director and my mom’s attending doctor all rushed over.

“Where is Mrs. Bennett?”

The doctor wiped sweat off his brow. “Sir, Mrs. Bennett died of a heart attack three days ago.”

“How is that possible? What are you people even getting paid for!”

“Sir, it’s not that we wouldn’t treat her. You stopped paying for her medical care. We couldn’t do

anything…”

As he finished speaking, Damian froze in shock.

“Cut off her treatment? How is that possible? Didn’t I tell Serena to wire you the money?”

The group exchanged uneasy glances, no one dared to speak.

A cold dread grew heavier and heavier in Damian’s chest.

If Scarlett’s mother really died from lack of treatment, wouldn’t she hate him forever?

When the hospital director pulled up the security footage showing my mother convulsing on the

hospital bed until she went still, Damian’s eyes turned red with rage.

“How could you not call me about something this huge!”

The attending physician stood beside him, nervous and hesitant. “Sir, we tried calling you, but you

didn’t answer. Your secretary picked up, and she told us to cremate the body early-she said that

was your order…”

Damian suddenly remembered. He’d been with Serena watching fireworks that night, and his

phone had vibrated nonstop.

Serena had answered the call for him.

The fireworks were so loud, he couldn’t make out what she was saying.

“Who was it?” he’d asked.

“Nothing, just a spam call,” she’d replied.

So that bitch had been lying to him this whole time!

A white-hot rage almost drowned him.

He sped all the way back to his mansion.

Inside the villa, Serena was wearing a face mask.

When she saw Damian walk in, she hurried over to greet him.

“Damian, you…”

The next second, a pair of large hands wrapped roughly around her throat.

“I’m asking you-where’s the million dollars I told you to wire to the hospital account? Did you or did you not send it?”
