He got out of the car and walked into the mansion.

When he opened the front door, he saw all the maids and staff just eating plain bread.

When they saw Damian come in, they all jumped up nervous as hell. “Don.”

Damian glanced at the bread in their hands and frowned. “Can the Moretti family not afford to feed you anymore? Why are you aH eating this garbage?”

The whole hall went dead silent.

Finally, Gina worked up the courage to step forward. “Sir, ever since Miss Serena got here, she’s

been cutting our pay…

“A couple weeks ago, if Mrs. Moretti hadn’t sold her own things to feed us, we would’ve starved by

now.”

A headache throbbed behind Damian’s eyes.

Serena acted out all the time, that he didn’t care, but how dare she cut the staff’s food and pay?

If this got out, where would his family’s reputation go?

He pulled out a bank card and slammed it on the table.

“From now on, you don’t listen to her.”

He forced his anger down and headed upstairs, but froze when he passed Scarlett’s room.

There was nothing inside it except a bed and a wardrobe.

You’d think the wife of the Don of the Moretti family was living in a damn empty model home.

Damian opened the wardrobe. All he saw were a few old coats with patches sewn into them.

A maid walking by to clean got called in by him.

“Where are Mrs. Moretti’s clothes? Did they all get sent to the wash?”

He remembered clearly, he sent new designer clothes every single month.

The maid kept her head down. “Miss Serena had them all thrown away.”

Damian stared at her, shocked. “Thrown away? Why?”

The maid shook her head. “It was all Miss Serena’s order.”

Serena’s order?

He suddenly remembered the day he first brought Serena home.

She’d stood in that fancy lobby, furious, and said—

“You Mafia guys, everything you eat and drink is blood and sweat from regular people. It’s disgusting.

“If you want me to stay, fine, but you have to promise me the whole Moretti family does what I say. I’m gonna reform this place for the better!”

Damian had never met a woman like her before, and he fell hard and fast.

But he never imagined Serena would order Scarlett’s things thrown away.

What the hell had Scarlett even been living like this whole time?

While he was standing there frozen, the click of high heels came down the stairs.

“Damian, why aren’t you ready yet? I got tired of waiting so I came to find you.”

Serena, dripping in head-to-toe luxury, stood right there next to the closet full of rags, the contrast

couldn’t have been sharper.

Damian stared at her, his eyes ice cold, and said one word at a time.

“Who gave you permission to have all of Scarlett’s clothes thrown away?”

Serena stuck her tongue out, wrapped her arm around his like she always did when she wanted

something.

“You promised me, remember? You said the whole Moretti family has to do what I say.

“I just wanted her to understand how hard you work for money. What did I do wrong?”

She rubbed her chest against his arm as she talked.

Heat flooded his body, and even the little bit of anger he had burned right up.

He tapped her nose playfully and warned. “You little troublemaker. Don’t do this again.

“She’s still my wife, after all.”

The word “wife” stabbed right through Serena’s heart. She pushed the jealousy down and forced a sweet, understanding smile.

“I got it.”

For the next two days, Damian spent every minute with Serena.

But suddenly, he felt something was off.

The warm glass of milk that used to get set on his nightstand every night was gone.

The pressed, neatly laid out suit that waited for him every morning was gone.

Even the familiar soft scent that used to linger in the bedroom was gone.

That was when he remembered-I’d always taken care of every single part of his daily routine.

And with me gone these two days, no one did any of it anymore.
