Oops! Keep the Fiancé… I’m Taking the Fake Heiress Chapter 04

After saying that, Mr. Grant turned and went downstairs.

Ethan shot me a contemptuous look, then moved closer to Vera and lowered his voice.

“Vera, don’t upset yourself.”

“It isn’t worth making yourself sick over this.”

“I’ll order the gown you wanted from your favorite designer for the gala, alright?”

“But you can’t keep acting like this.”

“Our families expect us to stand together.”

“If you keep taking that wild girl’s side, I’m going to be angry.”

Vera didn’t spare him a single glance.

She took my hand, her expression cold, and led me to her room.

The door slammed behind us.

I sat on the bed, stewing.

The longer I thought about it, the more impossible it became to swallow my anger.

By the time the gala arrived, I was going to make sure Vera tore up that engagement for good.

Ethan Ford could disappear as far from her life as possible.

The day of the gala arrived.

I put on the cream-colored dress Vera had picked out for me.

I’d barely stepped through the doors of the glittering ballroom and started looking around for Vera when Martin, who had been following behind me, suddenly stuck out his foot.

At the same moment, he shoved me hard in the lower back.

I was completely unprepared.

My balance vanished, and my whole body pitched forward.

In panic, my hands flailed through the air.

My fingertips caught the wrist of the man standing in front of me.

Snap.

The band of the custom limited-edition watch on his wrist broke beneath my grip.

The diamond-set watch arced through the air.

It struck the polished marble floor and skidded several feet away.

The room went instantly silent.

Martin immediately arranged his face into an expression of guilt.

“I’m terribly sorry.”

“This is my sister. She was only recently brought back into the family.”

“She destroyed your custom watch. It’s worth six figures.”

“I’ll give you a proper explanation.”

“I’ll teach her a harsh lesson right now to make up for it.”

I hit the floor, my knee screaming with pain.

Furious at Martin’s lies, I was about to scramble up and curse him out when a large, strong hand suddenly reached down in front of me.

The man pulled me up with gentle but firm strength.

I brushed the dust from my dress and looked up angrily.

Then I crashed straight into a familiar pair of eyes.

The man stood tall in a sharply tailored black designer suit.

His presence was cold and commanding.

His devastatingly handsome face had gone dark with fury.

“Who exactly do you think you are,” he asked, his voice low enough to freeze the room, “to teach the most treasured member of the Shaw family a lesson?”
