His Ex Called and He Ran, His Rival Called and I Ran Straight to Him Chapter 06

His Ex Called and He Ran, His Rival Called and I Ran Straight to Him Chapter 06

Most of them came from a small Carter Group chat I had forgotten to leave.

The conversation was moving so quickly I could barely follow it.

[They’re so sweet.]

[This is giving me a sugar rush.]

[The shy intern and the cold CEO. They were made for each other.]

My lips twitched.

Using one of the screenshots in the chat, I opened Tanya’s social media page.

She had tagged the urgent-care center.

The photo showed Felix watching anxiously while a nurse wrapped gauze around the tiny scratch

on her finger.

I pressed a hand to my abdomen.

The surgical incision seemed to throb more sharply.

The comments were overflowing.

[He’s so protective.]

[Forever.]

[When are you two getting married?]

Felix had replied to every single one.

The old Felix never scrolled through social media.

He certainly never commented.

His replies were written in the dry, authoritative tone everyone at Carter Group recognized.

[Gossip is allowed after work. Never during office hours.]

[Take care of yourselves. When it comes to health, no problem is too small.]

He didn’t deny the relationship.

If anything, the replies felt like a playful confirmation.

I opened my conversation with Felix.

The last message was still the one I had sent from the restaurant.

[We’re done.]

No wonder he hadn’t seen it.

He had been too busy charming everyone online.

I laughed softly.

Interesting.

Since Tanya was now my former best friend and Felix was my former boyfriend, I might as well

offer my congratulations.

I added a comment beneath her post.

[Wishing you two forever.]

A second later, Tanya messaged me.

[Olivia, don’t misunderstand.]

[There’s nothing between Felix and me. He was only worried and took me to urgent care.]

[The other employees don’t know the truth, but you do. Why are you joining the joke?]

I congratulated her, and somehow I was still the problem.

I was about to add another comment when the post disappeared.

Then Felix messaged me.

[?]

[Olivia Bennett, have you lost your mind?]

My phone started ringing repeatedly.

I answered.

Felix’s breathing was fast.

“I took your friend to urgent care, and now you want to break up?”

“Yes.”

“You’re jealous again?”

“Where are you? I’ll come find you.”

His voice sounded urgent.

Underneath the urgency was the same familiar impatience.

I sighed.

“Don’t bother, Felix.”

“We have no relationship anymore.”

“My congratulations were sincere.”

“And you can keep the apartment.”

“It’s already full of your happy memories together.”

The nurse entered at that moment.

“Ms. Bennett, it’s time to change your dressing.”

Felix went silent.

“Change your dressing?”

“What happened?”

“It has nothing to do with you.”

I ended the call and blocked both Felix and Tanya everywhere.

The noise finally stopped.

But less than an hour later, Felix appeared at my hospital-room door.

Tanya followed him with red eyes.

The moment she saw me, tears spilled down her face.

“Olivia, I had no idea your stomach problem was this serious.”

“You needed surgery.”

“How do you feel?”

“Does it still hurt?”

She reached for my arm.

I quietly pulled away.

I didn’t bother lifting my eyes.

“I’m fine.”

Felix walked over carrying a thermos.

He started to open it, then noticed the empty soup container on my bedside table.

His eyes swept around the room.

“Someone was here?”

“Yes.”

“You’re not welcome.”

“Take your things and leave.”

Felix stared at me as though I had become a different person.

Maybe he thought I had.

Whenever I had been hospitalized before, I waited desperately for him to visit.

He always had an excuse.

“Be good, Olivia. I have a multimillion-dollar project to supervise.”

“I hired a private nurse for

you.”

“You’re capable. Do you really need someone sitting beside you?”

A boyfriend visiting his sick girlfriend should have been ordinary.

With Felix, it had always been treated like an unreasonable luxury.

Now I didn’t ask for him.

I didn’t want him.

And suddenly he had found the time to come.

The irony was almost funny.

Felix set the soup down.

His brow tightened.

“I heard a young man in a Bentley brought you here.”

“Olivia, did you cheat on me?”
