After Amnesia, I Took Back Everything I Gave My Football Star Boyfriend Chapter 01

After waking up from the car accident, I remembered everyone except Caden Reed, the man I had personally backed and transformed into one of the league’s star wide receivers.

So I withdrew every business investment I had made in him over the years. I even announced on social media that I supported his relationship with his childhood friend, Natalie.

Fans celebrated online, thrilled that Caden had finally escaped me, the controlling heiress to an old-money dynasty.

But in an empty players’ tunnel, he reined in the intimidating Alpha presence he usually carried and blocked my path with red-rimmed eyes.

“Erin, could you at least try to remember what it felt like to love me?”

“This time, I swear I’ll do better than I did before.”

After the accident, the doctors at the hospital kept insisting that I had amnesia.

But over the past few days, I had recognized every single person who came to visit me.

My attending physician, Dr. Harris, was the leading neurologist in North America, personally sent by the Council of Elders.

When I questioned his diagnosis, he simply opened my brain scan report and spoke with absolute certainty.

“Miss Winter, you must have forgotten a very important part of your life.”

“Your wolf hasn’t been harmed, but a section of your soul has been forcibly sealed off.”

“I stake my professional reputation on it. You have definitely lost part of your memory.”

Clutching my laptop, I complained to my best friend, Nora, and Leon, who had grown up with me.

“That doctor is really good at making excuses for a bad diagnosis.”

“I’ve already seen everyone I was supposed to see. If there were really someone that important, wouldn’t you two know who it was?”

Nora silently glanced at Leon.

Leon had been leaning against the window, still dressed in the New York Empire’s black training gear.

At my words, he seemed to think of something and laughed.

His cedar-and-fir Alpha scent unfurled as he laughed, soothing my restless wolf almost instantly.

“Exactly.”

“You remember everyone worth remembering. How does that count as amnesia?”

We quickly agreed that I should be discharged.

Just as I was preparing to leave the hospital, an unexpected visitor appeared in my room.

The man looked as though he hadn’t rested at all during the trip. He was still wearing a long athletic coat stamped with the league’s logo, as if he had come straight from the airport.

He had broad shoulders and sharply defined features, but dark circles shadowed his eyes.

When he saw me in my hospital gown, he stopped in the doorway, a complicated mix of emotions crossing his face.

“Erin, I’m late.”

“I didn’t realize this accident was real.”

“I’m sorry.”

The grief in his eyes didn’t look fake.

His scorched-amber scent carried the tightly restrained pain of a wounded Alpha, weighing down the entire hospital room.

But my wolf felt no urge to approach him. Instead, she immediately went on guard.

“I don’t know who you are, but you should come inside. Standing out there staring at me looks weird.”

When he realized I wasn’t openly hostile, some of the tension in his eyes eased.

The next second, he walked straight over and grabbed my arm.

“How badly are you hurt?”

His palm was hot, and his scent carried an unmistakable attempt to soothe his mate.

But the moment his scent reached me, my wolf let out an irritated growl.

Frowning, I pried his hand off me.

“It’s nothing serious.”

“Have we met before?”

The hospital room went completely silent.

He stared at me for a long time, as though he couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

“Erin, are you still angry with me?”

“I admit I flew to London at the last minute without discussing it with you first.”

“Something happened to Natalie over there. I had to go.”

“But the moment the league event ended, I took a red-eye flight straight back. I’m exhausted, Erin. Stop making a scene, okay?”

His explanation was detailed and coherent, and he said my name with practiced familiarity.

More importantly, the bodyguards outside my room hadn’t stopped him.

That meant he really did know me.

I immediately pressed the nurse call button. The thrill of finally finding a clue snapped me fully awake.

“Put the discharge on hold.”

“I think the victim of my amnesia has finally shown up.”
