He Was Ready To Die Until I Told Him I Was Pregnant Chapter 07

Every time it happened, I’d pull out my phone and start playing audiobooks.

Stories about girls who grew up without stability or security, girls who’d fall for the first loser who paid them.

attention and throw their lives away.

Others about daughters from broken homes who grew up resentful, blaming their parents for everything that

went wrong.

With every story, Arthur’s expression darkened.

I could practically see him picturing Lily Sterling in every one of them.

A visible shudder ran through him.

“I really can’t help you.”

Arthur picked up the phone. His voice was firm.

“Don’t call me again.”

“My money belongs to my daughter.”

He hung up, called his lawyer, and split his company shares into thirds-one for Lily, one for me, and one for

himself.

On top of that, he bought over a dozen properties in Lily’s name.

There were also various investments, funds, and growth trusts…

He covered all the bases.

Before her first birthday, Lily’s net worth was in the hundreds of millions.

As for Eleanor, without Arthur’s money, Julian’s company tanked fast.

It was still scraping by, but nothing like what it used to be.

Julian blamed Eleanor for the whole thing. She was supposed to get Arthur to help, and she’d failed.

He grew distant. Then he started staying out all night.

Eleanor spent most of her days crying.

All of this came through the comments.

Meanwhile, life at the estate couldn’t have been more different.

Lily crawled, then pulled herself up, then took her first wobbly steps.

She started babbling, stringing sounds together like she had something urgent to say.

The first time she walked on her own, she tottered forward on shaky legs, two steps, three, and crashed

straight into Arthur’s arms.

“Da… Daddy.”

Arthur’s eyes filled instantly. He pressed his face into her hair so I wouldn’t see, but it was too late.

He held her tight, blinking back tears. Then, still sniffling, he pulled out his phone and called his assistant to set up another multi-million-dollar trust fund for her.

He looked down at Lily, voice thick.

“Lily… don’t you ever let some worthless punk steal you away from me, okay?”

“Daddy’s always going to be here for you…”

I didn’t know whether to roll my eyes or cry.

But the peace didn’t last. Eleanor showed up at the estate again.

She looked terrible: a plain dress, hollow cheeks, dark circles, eyes puffy and red from crying.

The second she saw Arthur, she lunged forward and threw her arms around his neck.

I’d just stepped out of the bedroom. Something tight and nameless tugged at my chest.

“Arthur…” She was sobbing too hard to get anything else out.

But Arthur didn’t soften the way he used to. His whole body went rigid.

He frowned and gently pushed her off, stepping back.

“Eleanor, stop.”

“Just tell me what’s going on.”

Eleanor flinched like he’d slapped her.

I could see the panic setting in.

“Why?”

“You’re pushing me away too? Arthur, you’re all I have left…”

“We’re both married, Eleanor. You need to step back.”

Arthur held her at arm’s length, one hand firm against her shoulder.

“Say what you need to say. From there.”

Eleanor stayed put, tears running, and started talking.

“You have no idea what my life has been like…”

“Ever since the company started failing, he’s been ice cold. He drinks every night, stays out, and now he’s

seeing other women…”

“I confronted him about it, and he hit me.”

She turned her cheek to show him.

Arthur looked. There wasn’t a single mark on her.

He didn’t seem particularly moved. He just wanted this to be over.

“And then what?”

“I… I can’t do this anymore. I can’t stay with him!”

“I’ve heard the company’s about to go under completely… and when it does, he’ll take it out on me even

more.”

“I want out.”

“Arthur, you’re the only one left. Save me. Let’s start over… please?”

Before Arthur could react, she closed the gap and locked her arms around his neck.
