His GPS Always Navigated To My Best Friend’s Apartment Chapter 08

Ethan collapsed that night and was driven back to Metropolis City by Zach under the cover of darkness

I foolishly assumed my life would finally quiet down.

That was until two weeks later, when another uninvited guest appeared outside my office building.

Chloe.

Her eyes were red and swollen, her entire posture radiating the look of a deeply wronged victim.

“Rachel, can you please talk to Ethan?” The second she opened her mouth, her voice dissolved into a pathetic whine. “Ever since he came back from Oak Creek, he’s been completely different.”

“He didn’t just block my number-when I went to see him at his office, he actually had security throw me out.” She sniffled, wiping at her eyes. “I honestly don’t know what I did wrong.”

I watched her bury her face in her hands, squeezing out tears. “You came all this way just to tell me this?”

“Rachel, I know you hate me.” She looked up, her expression morphing into an act of pure innocence. “But Ethan and I really are just innocent foodie buddies. You shouldn’t destroy his entire life just because you’re being narrow-minded.”

The more she spoke, the more tragic her act became, heavy tears splashing down her cheeks. “He’s drinking himself to death every day now and refusing to go to work. Since you don’t even love him anymore, why do you have to string him along and torture him like this?”

I was almost driven to laughter by the sheer absurdity of her logic.

Just as I opened my mouth to reply, Ethan stormed into view, his face completely livid. He lunged forward, grabbing Chloe by the arm and violently yanking her out of her chair.

“Who the hell gave you permission to come find her?!” Ethan’s voice vibrated with a suppressed, lethal fury.

Chloe let out a sharp shriek of terror. “Ethan… you’re hurting me! I just wanted to help you reason with

Rachel…”

“Shut up!” Ethan’s eyes were completely bloodshot as he glared down at her. “I warned you never to show your face in front of me again, and I explicitly told you to stop bothering her! What kind of garbage do you think you are to come here and dictate terms to her?”

Chloe stared at him in absolute horror. The man standing in front of her bore no resemblance to the fiercely protective, compliant person she used to know.

“Ethan, you didn’t use to be like this! You promised you’d always protect me!”

That was back when I was blind!” Ethan cut her off with a harsh roar.

He turned his head to look at me, the murderous rage instantly dissolving into a pathetic, submissive

desperation.

“Rachel, please don’t listen to her lies.” His voice cracked. “I’m not stringing her along. I’ve completely cut off

all ties with her. I came here today because I wanted to make everything absolutely clear right in front of

your face.”

He stared at me fixedly, desperately waiting for my response.

I looked at the absolute circus playing out in front of me, feeling nothing but a profound, exhausting

weariness.

“A truly spectacular performance,” I said, standing up. “But Ethan, haven’t you completely missed the point?”

He froze, his breath catching.

“Whether you choose to cut ties with her or stay with her means absolutely nothing to me anymore.”

I picked up my bag, looking down at him. “Do you honestly think that just because you kicked her to the curb, I’ll run back to your side like a grateful dog, begging for whatever scraps of affection you throw my way?”

“No… no, that’s not what I meant…” Ethan stammered frantically, trying to explain himself.

“Deep down in your bones, you are nothing but a spineless, cake-and-eat-it-too coward,” I said, slicing through his pathetic facade without a shred of mercy.

“You loved the way she worshipped you, but you were too parasitic to give up the way I took care of you.”

“Now that you realize I am gone for good, you’re terrified. So you’re turning on her, using her as a sacrificial lamb to prove your twisted version of loyalty to me.”

Watching the color drain from his face until it went completely grey, I continued in a flat, even voice.

“It’s too late.”

“I have already built a brand-new life, and I have a new suitor who actually values me. You were disqualified a

long time ago.”
