His GPS Always Navigated To My Best Friend’s Apartment Chapter 07

Ethan didn’t leave.

Instead, he started showing up at the entrance of my office building every single day, right on schedule.

In the mornings, he would try to hand me different kinds of breakfast options. By noon, he switched to

bouquets of red roses.

And when evening rolled around, he would stand there miserably in the biting wind, his eyes glued to the

glass doors, waiting for me to clock out.

He was desperately trying to use these textbook gestures to reignite the devotion I had once felt for him.

But to me, it was nothing but an absolute bore.

Every single time, I walked right past him without looking left or right, taking whatever he tried to hand me and tossing it straight into the trash can by the curb.

Then came a relentless, week-long downpour.

Yet Ethan still stood downstairs through the torrential rain, refusing to hold an umbrella, letting the freezing

water soak him completely to the bone.

At the end of the day, Logan walked up to my side, holding a large umbrella.

“Director Sterling, that guy outside is still there.” He glanced through the glass. “He looks like he’s running a massive fever-his face is dangerously flushed. Should I call security to have him removed?”

“Don’t bother.” I took the umbrella from his hand. “We don’t need to clear out random pedestrians.”

I opened the umbrella and stepped straight into the sheet of rain.

The moment Ethan saw me, his dull eyes lit up, and he stumbled blindly toward me through the downpour.

“Rachel…”

His voice was a shredded whisper the second he opened his mouth. He reached out a burning, trembling

hand, trying to catch the fabric of my sleeve.

I took a sharp step back, easily evading his touch.

“Ethan, playing the martyr doesn’t work on me.” My voice was flat against the sound of the rain. “Even if you drop dead right here, the absolute most I’ll do is call 911 for you.”

He froze in his tracks, the rain streaming down his hair and into his eyes, making him look utterly pathetic

and broken.

“I’m not trying to play a martyr…” He forced a twisted smile that looked worse than crying. “I just… I just

wanted to see you, Rachel. I really know I messed up.”

I used to take it for granted that you’d never leave me. I thought no matter how much you pushed back, you’d

always forgive me in the end. I was so incredibly selfish.”

With trembling hands, he pulled a small, wrapped jewelry box from his soaked pocket and managed to open

Inside lay a diamond pendant necklace.
“This is the necklace you wanted for your birthday last year. I… I told you it was too expensive back then and

didn’t get it for you.” He looked up, his eyes pleading. “I bought it now. Will you please let me put it on you?”

I stared at the necklace, finding the entire scene intensely ironic.

He had indeed claimed it was too expensive back then.

Yet, right after turning me down, he had turned around and bought Chloe a limited-edition designer handbag

that cost several times the price of this necklace.

His justification at the time was that Chloe had just entered the workforce and needed a luxury bag to

maintain appearances.

“Ethan, do you honestly think I still care about scraps left over from someone else?”

Right then, my phone began to vibrate in my coat pocket. It was a call from Zach, Ethan’s close buddy.

I swiped answer and put it on speakerphone.

“Rachel, don’t you think you’re taking this way too far?” Zach’s voice boomed through the speaker, dripping

with self-righteous anger.

“Ethan completely abandoned his own company just to track you down. He’s standing out there with a fever pushing 104 degrees right now. Do you seriously have to drive him to his grave before you’re satisfied?”

Hearing his attempt at a guilt trip, I let out a cold laugh.

“Zach, three months ago, Ethan gave my front-row concert tickets to Chloe and left me standing outside in a freezing downpour for two straight hours. Back then, why didn’t you call him up and ask him if he was taking

things way too far?”

The line went completely dead.

I ended the call and looked back at Ethan, who was visibly swaying on his feet.

“Did you hear that? This tragic display of devotion only succeeds in moving you and your frat boys. To me,

it’s worth absolutely nothing.”

I turned on my heel and walked away, never throwing a single glance back.

Behind me, the dull, heavy thud of a body collapsing against the pavement echoed through the rain.

I didn’t turn around.
