I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Chapter 08

Watching me scramble to slam my hand over my phone’s speaker, the faint, barely perceptible smile at the corner of his mouth vanished entirely.

Once the line clicked dead, I let out two dry, forced laughs.

“Thanks, but no thanks. I can just chew on myself for the next two days.”

“Wait… I mean, my jaw doesn’t itch at all. I’m not gnawing on anyone.”

The silence in the air grew slightly terrifying before Ethan let out a quiet, flat grunt.

“Get some sleep.”

[The Male Lead is seriously too kind. It’s the middle of the night and his eyes are literally red with

exhaustion, yet he’s still checking up on a brainless NPC like you.]

The system’s voice suddenly erupted, giving me a violent fright.

His eyes are red?

I hadn’t noticed at all, but the system sounded entirely confident.

[Duh! The corners of his eyes are totally flushed. He’s so completely exhausted, yet he still came over to ask if you needed him to sacrifice his own flesh. Sigh.]

I flopped back onto my bed, an inexplicable wave of irritation flaring up in my chest. I lifted my bare arm and gently bit down on it, but it didn’t feel like enough-not even close.

Even though Ethan’s body was lean and hard, he always carried that subtle, crisp scent of cedar.

I had once asked him if he sprayed cologne, and Ethan had replied with a soft, tracing smile.

“You’re the one putting me in your mouth. How would I dare spray artificial stuff on myself?”

I tossed and turned in a restless huff, and just as I was drifting off to sleep, a bizarre, dark thought

suddenly crept into my mind.

If only I were Ethan’s Female Lead.

When we walked to school together the next morning, I noticed dark, heavy circles under Ethan’s

eyes.

“Chloe.”

His voice sounded entirely raspy, as if he were suppressing a mountain of raw tension.

“There are still two days until Sunday.”

I let out a soft gasp, looking at the intense emotion swirling deep in his eyes in total bewilderment.

“Didn’t you literally say that yesterday?”

Ethan drew in a slow, deep breath.

“Right. I forgot.”

We had barely finished our third period before I realized Lucas was actively avoiding me.

The system took absolute delight in kicking me while I was down.

[What did I tell you? You definitely have the potential to be an evil villainess. Now, it’s not just the Male Lead who loathes you the NPC desk mate sitting right next to you hates you too.]

I absolutely detested this system.

I slumped forward onto my desk, feeling entirely drained and miserable.

Lucas looked as if he wanted to say something, but his eyes suddenly darted to the space behind me,

and his entire posture went completely rigid.

A tumbler was set down firmly in front of me, though Ethan didn’t say a single word.

“No need-”

Staring at his retreating back, the words of refusal choked completely in my throat.

The system was throwing a non-stop countdown tantrum in my head, reminding me that the New Girl would be transferring in this coming Monday.

I drank the smoothie while forced to listen to its relentless blabbering.

[Since when can a childhood best friend beat the New Girl? Elements like that are textbook romance

rules.]

[Just wait until the Male and Female Lead lock eyes. The chemistry between them is going to be an

absolute, explosive firestorm…]

For some unexplainable reason, a thick, suffocating wad of cotton filled my chest, making me incredibly uncomfortable.

With the system still squawking away, I abruptly stood up, giving Lucas a violent fright.

It wasn’t until I stepped out onto the wide, open sports field that the heavy, crushing pressure in my chest finally dissipated a bit.

Not far away, two boys were playfully wrestling and running toward my direction.

I kept my eyes glued to the toes of my sneakers, deeply lost in thought, trying to figure out why the hell I was experiencing such a bizarre sensation.

In the next fraction of a second, a sharp pain shot through my shoulder, and the world spun completely around.

I widened my eyes, losing my footing entirely as I tumbled hard toward the side.

Yet, the expected impact with the gravel never came. Instead, the familiar, crisp scent of pine completely enveloped me.

My lips crashed flat against a cold, hard place, and a faint, sharp hiss of pain sounded right above my head.
