I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Chapter 09

“Sorry, sorry!”

The two boys scrambled to help us up. I was mostly fine, but Ethan seemed to have taken quite a heavy blow.

The system berated me fiercely.

[You’re a walking disaster. Did you just slam right into the Male Lead’s collarbone? He’s practically in tears from the pain, look how red his neck is.]

I looked up. Sure enough, the crimson flush on Ethan’s neck had crept all the way to the tips of his ears, and the spot where I had crashed into his collarbone was completely bright red.

[The collarbone is the most fragile area. Look at him-the Male Lead fs hurting so much his eyelashes are damp with tears, and his whole body is trembling. Hurry up and apologize!]

I thought this system was being entirely ridiculous.

It wasn’t like I wanted to tumble straight into Ethan’s arms. When those two boys ran into me, I didn’t even know where Ethan was. It made no sense to blame me for him suddenly appearing out of nowhere right behind my back.

But seeing that his fingertips really were trembling slightly, I figured it must have been a nasty collision, so my heart softened and I apologized anyway.

Ethan let out a soft cough, his voice sounding entirely raspy.

“It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt.”

Ethan walked right by my side, and the breeze rolling off the field seemed to carry the sharp scent of pine from his clothes..

“Class is about to start. What are you doing out here alone? Bad day?”

I tilted my head up to look at him.

I had been looking at Ethan’s face since we were toddlers, yet I still found him strikingly, flawlessly

handsome.

“Is it because of Lucas?”

Seeing that I remained silent, he spoke up again, his voice dropping even lower this time.

His long eyelashes cast a shadow downward, and I could actually detect a distinct, almost pathetic vulnerability in his expression.

“What about Lucas?”

I was slightly taken aback, and Ethan bit his lip softly.

“I noticed you two barely spoke a word to each other today. Did he do something to mess with your

head?”

I gave it some thought, but I couldn’t really figure out if that was the reason or not.

Either way, my chest just felt incredibly tight and suffocated, so I simply chose not to answer him

Ethan didn’t push any further, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the air right beside me had gone completely icy and chilling.

Over the next two days, my lab partner remained completely cold and distant, but I was already too preoccupied to care about him.

The system in my head was throwing a daily celebration for the New Girl’s arrival on Monday. I finally asked it:

Once the Female Lead gets here, does that mean you’ll finally get out of my head?

A few seconds of silence stretched before it replied in its usual obnoxious tone.

[Who knows? Maybe I will once the Male and Female Lead get together. Or maybe I’ll just stay bound to a brainless NPC like you for the rest of your life.]

It felt like my entire world was collapsing. On Friday, during the walk home after the final bell, Ethan’s expression looked incredibly dark.

“Chloe, you’ve only known him for a few weeks. Do you really care about him that much?”

My mind was a chaotic mess, and I whipped my head around to stare at him.

“What?”

Ethan had gotten noticeably thinner over the past few days.

His posture was already naturally tall and lean, but now his features were even sharper, adding a

distinct layer of cold, aloof elegance to his aura.

His eyes seemed to pool with an even deeper, brooding melancholy, yet his voice remained completely unchanged whenever he addressed me-soft, gentle, and unyielding.

“Nothing. Has your biting fixation flared up at all over the last two days?”

Of course it did. I had spent practically every single night curled up, gnawing hard on my own wrist, but I had absolutely no intention of letting Ethan know that.

So, I shook my head and subtly tugged my sleeve down a bit further.

Ethan’s gaze slowly traveled up from my wrist, moving inch by inch until it locked firmly onto my

face.

“Good,” he said softly.
