When Rome Finally Snowed, The Don Lost Me Chapter 11

The call dropped suddenly. Zayne’s chest felt tight for 

no reason. 

After the meeting ended, he tried to call Renee back, 

but she wouldn’t answer. 

He thought about how badly she’d cried the day before. 

He took the private elevator to the eighteenth floor, planning to tell the director to move Renee back to TV. 

As soon as he reached the department, someone 

screamed. 

“Breaking news! A shooting at the Brooklyn Navy Yard 

ten minutes ago!” 

“Team A, get to the scene now for exclusive coverage!” 

“Team B, pull every Rome shooting report from the 

last ten years!” 

“Which yard?” Zayne’s face turned white. He rushed 

1. in. 

“Zayne, the blog department just got a video tip. 

Someone filmed the shooting at the Brooklyn Navy 

Yard.” 

The cameraman Lao Zhang played the clip. 

It was blurry, but Zayne recognized his uncle Silas 

immediately. 

The person he was pointing the gun at… was Renee. 

The video was only six seconds long. 

He played it over and over. 

Zayne finally understood. He stumbled back and 

rushed downstairs. 

The Bellandi Family never allowed bastards. 

Years earlier, his brother had an affair with a model. 

After the baby was born, they both disappeared. 

Silas was the one who did it. 

Renee had been telling the truth. She really was 

pregnant. 

Zayne’s hands shook so bad he could barely hold the 

steering wheel. He almost crashed several times. 

When he reached the Brooklyn Navy Yard, police had 

already blocked off the area. 

Blood was still on the ground. He grabbed a young cop 

by the collar and shouted. 

“Where is Renee?” 

The cop looked uncomfortable. 

“Don Zayne, we haven’t found Miss Renee.” 

“We tested the blood. It’s hers. Security footage shows she was right at the water’s edge. She was shot in the stomach and slipped into the ocean.” 

“Search and rescue went down once. They didn’t find 

anything.” 

Zayne’s mind went blank. Terror flooded his chest. 

He stared at the water and snapped. 

“Keep looking! I want her found alive or dead!” 

He was about to jump in when Celine stopped him. 

“Zayne, there’s a typhoon. The water’s freezing cold. 

Let the rescue team handle it.” 

“Celine, get the hell off me!” 

Zayne pushed her away and dove into the water 

without any gear. 

Helena arrived after seeing the news. 

Reporters swarmed the area. Helicopters filmed live 

from above. 

Twenty minutes later, Zayne climbed back onto shore. 

When he saw Helena, his eyes were bloodshot. He punched a shipping container. 

“How could you hurt Renee? Just because she was 

pregnant, you wanted her dead?” 

Media cameras turned toward them. 

Helena’s face stiffened. 

“Zayne, your uncle did this. I didn’t know Renee was 

pregnant.” 

Zayne’s face went cold. His eyes turned dangerous. 

“Renee is the only woman I’ve ever loved. He dared to hurt her. If she’s dead, I’ll kill him myself.” 

Helena froze. 

She’d never seen her son lose control like this. 

Was that woman really that important to him? 

Years ago, right after Zayne came back from Germeny, he’d taken Renee to the Hamptons mansion. 

She’d had her investigated. Renee’s parents were 

divorced. She lived with her aunt. She was too lowclass 

to ever join the Bellandi Family. 

She’d relaxed when she realized Zayne had no plans to marry her.
