My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 15

Emily’s lips trembled. Terrified by the way Ethan was looking at her, she stumbled several steps

backward.

“I… I passed a spa on the way! I had a facial appointment I’d booked earlier…”

“This isn’t my fault! Mom seemed perfectly lucid at the time, so I gave her some cash and told her to walk around nearby and buy a few gifts. I told her to come to the hotel later for dinner. I had no idea she’d end up at the Lakeshore Restaurant!”

I looked at her and felt nothing but sadness.

“So you knew she had Alzheimer’s, and you still left her alone in an unfamiliar neighborhood?”

Fear filled Emily’s face. “I didn’t know this would happen! I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Then she realized she could push all the blame onto Vanessa and turned toward her.

“It was you!”

“You pulled out my mother’s teeth!”

“You locked her in a dog cage!”

“You killed her!”

Vanessa panicked and kept backing away until she crashed into a table.

“No, no, no! Emily, I didn’t know she was your mother!”

“I thought she was Olivia’s mother!”

“I thought she was there to eat for free! I just wanted to make sure she never came back. I really

didn’t know…”

She rushed toward Ethan and grabbed his hand.

“Ethan, you agreed with what I did too! You said yourself that I hadn’t done anything wrong. You said she needed to be taught a lesson. You can’t blame all of this on me!”

Ethan stared at her, and the look on his face was terrifying.

“Vanessa! That was my mother! She raised Emily and me all by herself. She never had a single truly

easy day in her life. And you tortured her like that. You didn’t even treat her like a human being.

Now you expect me to forgive you?”

Just then, Daniel, the restaurant manager, walked casually into the ballroom with a confident

smile. He had just completed the task Ethan had given him and clearly had no idea what had

happened.

“Mr. Walker, I took care of it exactly as you ordered.”

“That woman’s body has been thrown into the garbage compactor in the back alley.”

Ethan went completely still. A few seconds later, all the strength seemed to leave his body.

“What… what have I done?”

He grabbed his head and completely broke down.

I looked at him, my voice filled with mockery.

“What have you done? When Vanessa pulled out your mother’s teeth, you said she did the right

thing. When I told you to go to the restaurant and see for yourself, you told me to stay out of it. I told

you the truth again and again, and you called me jealous, vicious, and an embarrassment!”

I pointed at Ethan and raised my voice.

“Your mother had a heart attack and died inside that dog cage, and you still defended Vanessa! You

said the dead woman only had herself to blame because she was already sick. You tried to force me

to sign a settlement agreement so I couldn’t call the police or hold anyone responsible. And in the

end, you personally ordered Daniel to throw your mother’s body into a garbage compactor!”

I paused, letting him sit with everything he’d done.

“And now you’re saying Vanessa killed your mother? Ethan, you’re the one who taught her, over

and over again, that she could hurt people and get away with it! And you’re the one who couldn’t

even protect the last shred of dignity your mother had after her death! What a wonderful son you

are.”

With every word, Ethan’s face grew paler. By the end, he violently yanked his suit jacket open.

“No.”

“No, that’s not what happened.”

He shook his head desperately. But every word I had said and every single thing he had done cam rushing back to him. He couldn’t deny any of it. He couldn’t escape it.

A few seconds later, Ethan let out a howl of agony and raised his head. His eyes were bloodshot as

hé stared at Vanessa.

“It was you! You killed my mother! Give her back to me!”

Then he grabbed a knife from the dining table and charged at Vanessa.

She didn’t even have time to react before the knife plunged into her chest. Her eyes widened, and

she slowly collapsed to the floor.

The ballroom instantly descended into chaos. Some people screamed, some called the police,/

others called for an ambulance, and most of the guests rushed toward the exits.

I stood where I was and quietly watched it all unfold.

Vanessa soon stopped breathing.

But Ethan smiled, tears still streaming down his face.

“Mom, I avenged you.”

Then, still smiling, he broke down crying again.

“I’m sorry.”

“Mom, I’m sorry!”

“I was wrong!”

“Please don’t die!”

Emily collapsed onto the floor. She looked at Ethan, who had completely lost control, then at

Vanessa’s lifeless body.

“Oh my God…”

In the end, she couldn’t take the horror anymore and passed out.

Ethan was arrested at the scene and later sentenced to prison for murder.

Emily also suffered a complete mental breakdown after losing her mother and watching her

brother get arrested.

But none of that had anything to do with me anymore.

I left the hotel with my mother.

The night air was cool. Mom held my hand tightly.

“Olivia, let’s go home. I’ll make your favorite beef stew.”

I nodded.

“Okay.”

“Let’s go home.”

The streetlights stretched far into the distance. Behind us, the screams, sirens, and chaos faded

farther and farther away.

I knew I still had a long life ahead of me. But from that moment on, my life would finally belong to.
