My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 03

The ballroom erupted into chaos. The guests, who hadn’t cared at all before, now looked uneasy.

Vanessa’s expression changed.

“What happened?”

Daniel braced himself against a table and spoke in a rush.

“We did exactly what you told us to do. We pulled out her teeth and locked her in the dog cage out back.”

“After that, no one checked on her. We didn’t know she had a heart condition. Not long after you left, she started clutching her chest and struggling to breathe. By the time one of the employees noticed… she was already dead.”

Vanessa’s knees buckled, and she nearly collapsed. Ethan caught her immediately.

“Vanessa, don’t be scared. She had health problems. This isn’t your fault.”

Emily nodded.

“Exactly. Who would’ve thought someone with a heart condition would dare go into someone else’s restaurant and start screaming and causing trouble?”

“Honestly, her death is good news for all of us! At least now we don’t have to worry about some crazy woman showing up at the restaurant again.”

The guests around them had been shocked at first, but when they saw Ethan and Emily defending Vanessa, their attitudes quickly changed.

“Exactly! Sometimes you have to take out the trash before things can get better.”

“Vanessa was just protecting the restaurant. She was being responsible!”

“That’s right. Vanessa was pushed into it! When you’re dealing with a parasite, sometimes extreme measures are necessary!”

Soon, everyone was comforting Vanessa, treating her like she was the real victim.

The sight of it made me sick.

Someone was dead. She had been killed. And they were acting like nothing had happened!

Vanessa visibly relaxed. For a split second, a smug smile flashed across her face. Then her eyes turned red as she looked at me pleadingly.

“But Mr. Walker, the woman who died was Olivia’s mother. What if she calls the police or goes to the media and tries to destroy me?”

Ethan looked down at her.

His voice was especially gentle when he spoke to her.

“As long as I’m here, no one will hurt you.”

Then, right in front of me, he turned to the lawyer behind him and spoke briefly.

“Get me a confidential settlement agreement. Now.”

A few minutes later, a thick stack of documents was placed in front of me.

“Olivia, your mother was the one who caused trouble first. What happened to her in the end was an accident. She was unlucky. Vanessa isn’t to blame.”

“For the sake of all the years we’ve been married, I’ll pay for your mother’s funeral. That’s the greatest kindness I can offer you as your husband.”

“But you have to sign this agreement. You will not call the police, and you will not sue Vanessa!”

Emily folded her arms and added in a commanding tone, “Your mother died because of her own stupidity, so don’t even think about blaming anyone else. Sign the papers, and this is over.”

The brother and sister stood in front of me, actually ordering me to accept their charity.

I pushed the agreement back across the table.

“I’m not the one who needs to sign this. You two are.”
