The Devil Alpha’s Last Chance Chapter 04

The Devil Alpha’s Last Chance Chapter 04

“What is this bad luck? Get it out of here and throw it into the shared burial section!”

My blood rushed to my head.

“What are you doing?”

Seeing me approach, Zara smiled as she gently stroked the small urn in her hands.

“Sis, the witch said this is a blessed grave. It’ll bring the best luck to Snowball.”

Snowball was Zara’s Samoyed.

During the first three months after I was brought back to the Bloodmoon Pack, that dog bit me more than ninety times without reason. The worst attack tore a chunk of flesh from my leg.

I had cried to Zayden, begging him to stand up for me, but he had only patted Snowball’s head and said lightly, “Snowball is spiritual. He’d never bite someone for no reason. Yasmin, you must have done something wrong.”

Looking at Zara’s smug expression, I forced myself to stay calm.

“I reserved this plot a year ago. Can you please give it back to me?”

“Heh.”

Zara let out a mocking laugh and leaned close enough for only me to hear.

“Yasmin, if I want something, I’ve never failed to get it.”

“I know you’re dying. Back then, I personally asked those people in prison to take good care of you…”

A loud buzz exploded in my ears.

My hands clenched at my sides before slowly relaxing.

In the end, I only smiled at her, “You’ll pay for what you’ve done.”

The sharp crack of a slap echoed through the cemetery.

I struck her across the face with all my strength and shouted, “I went to prison for you! Why did you have to ruin my life like this?”

Zara screamed and deliberately dropped the urn.

The white ashes scattered through the air.

Covering her face, she burst into tears.

“Yasmin, hitting me wasn’t enough? Why would you do this to Snowball too?”

“Apologize to Zara.”

Zayden’s voice came from behind me.

My heart had long gone numb, yet tears still slipped down my face.

“I have terminal stomach cancer.”

“I only have a few days left.”

“What did you say?”

“It’s alright, Zayden.” Zara sobbed as she interrupted him. “I’ll just kneel down and pick up Snowball’s ashes.”

Then she took out a forged medical report.

“Yasmin, pretending to own a grave wasn’t enough? Why are you putting on another act for our brother?”

“I was worried about her, so I checked her medical records. Please don’t blame me.”

Zayden only glanced at the report before looking back at me in confusion.

“You loved putting on these little performances in prison. Haven’t you grown out of it yet?”

He still didn’t believe me.

The metallic taste of blood rose in my throat.

“I haven’t.”

The next second, a hard slap sent my face snapping to the side.

Zayden’s hand froze in the air.

His eyes were bloodshot, “Yasmin…”

“Don’t touch me.”

I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth.

Looking at the stunned expression on Zayden’s face, then at Zara’s satisfied smile, my voice trembled.

“I never want to see either of you again.”

A sharp pain tore through my stomach.

I staggered toward the cemetery gate, but the moment I stepped outside, I suddenly coughed up a mouthful of dark blood.

As Zayden watched the workers rebury Snowball’s ashes, an inexplicable pain tightened around his heart.

Just then, an elderly man with white hair hurried over, shaking with anger.

“The staff made a mistake! This burial plot is not for sale at any price!”

“I was Gideon, the former Beta of this pack. My former Alpha personally ordered that this grave would belong to Yasmin forever. No one is allowed to take it away.”

Zayden frowned.

“What do you mean? It’s only a grave. Why would an Alpha go to so much trouble just to reserve it for her?”

Gideon exploded in fury.

“You privileged Alphas are fighting a dying girl for her burial plot. Aren’t you afraid karma will catch up with you?”

“What did you say?”

“Who… who’s dying?”

Zayden’s voice cracked as he stumbled forward.

He stared at Gideon in panic, desperate to hear him deny it.

“That poor child, Yasmin…” Gideon said, tears filling his eyes as his voice grew hoarse. “She’s had such a hard life.”

“A year ago, she came to our pack looking for a job. She was so thin she was nothing but skin and bones. A strong breeze could’ve knocked her over. I couldn’t understand why someone so young wanted to become a pack cemetery caretaker.”

“She was terrified no Alpha would hire her and thought they’d drive her away, so she hurriedly told me she didn’t need any wages.”

“She said…” Gideon’s voice broke. “She was dying. All she wanted was a place to be buried.”

“That’s when I learned she had terminal stomach cancer.”
