He Left Me in the Snow for His First Love. So I Left His Marriage Chapter 10

My coworkers were chatting in Slack. By the time I saw it, there were already more than a hundred messages.

“Mr. Pierce wiped his Instagram clean. Nothing left. Nothing at all. Not one trace of Olivia.”

“I heard Olivia can’t even get into Pierce Group now. Security stops her at the door. She came a few times and got thrown out every time.”

A string of reaction GIFs followed.

“Men are so cold-blooded. When he likes you, he’ll stand beside you even if the sky falls. When he stops liking you, he’s the first one to bring the sky down on you.”

A few messages later, someone replied, “Come on. That’s not cold-blooded. Olivia rushed in to be the other woman. She brought it on herself.”

I turned off my phone.

The screen went dark, and I didn’t keep reading.

As early spring approached, the weather became unstable.

Near the end of the workday, a strong wind suddenly rose, cold enough to feel like deep winter.

A coworker even joked that it might snow overnight.

I tightened my clothes around me and went downstairs.

As I reached the intersection, someone caught up behind me.

“Claire.”

Ethan draped his trench coat over my shoulders.

“I was… passing by.”

His company and mine were in completely opposite directions.

I stopped him before he could fasten the coat for me.

His voice tightened.

“I just came to bring you something warm. You always catch colds when spring starts.”

“No need.” I cut him off coldly, took off the coat, and handed it back. “I can take care of myself. You don’t need to do extra things.”

“If you have this much time, sign the divorce agreement sooner.”

He gripped the coat tightly.

After a moment of silence, he said, “Claire, Olivia and I…”

“That’s between the two of you.” I interrupted him quickly and turned into the subway station.

The next evening, when I got home from work, the sky was already dark.

Only when I got close did I see someone standing at my door.

Ethan leaned against the wall, holding an insulated bag.

When he saw me, he straightened.

“I brought you dinner.”

“I saw your Instagram Story saying you worked late, so I had the housekeeper make soup and brought it over.”

I stood a few steps away and didn’t move.

In the past, whenever I worked late, I had always asked the housekeeper to make hot soup first.

Chicken noodle, or tomato basil.

A bowl of it made my whole body loosen up.

But I shook my head.

“I don’t need it. If I want soup, I’ll hire my own housekeeper.”

His fingers tightened around the handle of the insulated bag.

“Aren’t you busy?” I asked. “I heard your company is developing a new project. The whole tech floor is practically lit all night.”

Ethan came from a technical background.

In the past, whenever the company developed a new project, he stayed up with the team and worked through it.

He was silent for a moment, then said lowly, “I’m busy. But I missed you.”

When he stepped closer, I could see the exhaustion under his eyes.

Clearly, he had been awake for a long time.

I sighed.

“My lawyer said you still refuse to sign the divorce agreement. Are you unhappy with the asset division?”

His face darkened.

“I don’t want a divorce.”

“I’ve changed. I’ve cut Olivia off completely. There won’t be any contact in the future either.”

He took a step forward, his gaze landing on my face.

“Claire, I’m sorry. In the future… we’ll have another child too.”

I took a deep breath.

“We won’t have another child.”

His breathing paused.

“Even if nothing had happened that New Year’s Eve, I wouldn’t have kept that child.”

His face changed instantly.

“Why?”

“Because I had already decided to divorce you.”

Calm and cruel, I said, “The child was only a trigger. Even without that child, something else would have happened.”

“Pain doesn’t disappear just because you changed. What already happened can’t be repaired with one apology.”

He looked at me, and the red in his eyes seemed even deeper.

“My lawyer has already filed for divorce,” I said at last. “Even if you don’t agree, I will see it through.”

“Why, Claire? You won’t give me even one more chance?”

I didn’t respond.

I walked around him and opened my door.

A long time later, footsteps finally sounded outside as he left.
