He Left Me in the Snow for His First Love. So I Left His Marriage Chapter 01

His lips pressed into a hard line as he looked at me without expression.

“It’s raining. I came to take you home.”

I got up awkwardly, grabbed my bag, and walked toward the door.

Even after we got into the car, his face stayed dark.

Halfway home, he suddenly said, “I don’t want a divorce.”

“What I said outside the restaurant that day was just anger talking.”

On New Year’s Eve, it had snowed heavily.

Ethan suddenly had to leave on a business trip. I begged him for a long time, and he finally agreed to have New Year’s Eve dinner with me before he left.

He booked the restaurant. I left work early and rushed over, only to run into Ethan and Olivia just as they got out of the car.

I stopped.

Ethan walked a few steps toward the entrance. When he realized I wasn’t moving, he turned back.

“Why aren’t you going in?”

I looked past him at Olivia.

“Why is she here too?”

Olivia stiffened.

Ethan frowned and explained, “Olivia and I are going to the airport together later. It’s convenient to eat together.”

I pressed my lips together.

“I don’t find it convenient. Let her eat somewhere else nearby.”

Ethan’s expression cooled.

“Claire Moore, don’t make a scene. It’s just dinner.”

Just.

It was always just.

There was a play I had wanted to see for a long time. He got tickets through someone, and only after we sat down did I realize Olivia was sitting on his other side.

He said Olivia happened to want to see it too, so he had gotten her a ticket.

I asked him then, “Why does she have to sit with us? Couldn’t she sit somewhere else?”

“A friend gave me the tickets. I didn’t think that much about it,” he said. “Claire, it’s just a play.”

I wanted a Cartier necklace. He had one custom made for me as a birthday gift.

Then I saw the exact same necklace around Olivia’s neck.

I pointed at her and asked Ethan why.

Ethan said, “You have good taste, so I had another one made.”

Olivia lowered her head and smiled awkwardly at me.

“If you don’t like wearing the same thing as me, I won’t wear it.”

As she spoke, she lifted a hand to take it off.

Ethan stopped her.

“It’s just a necklace. Claire isn’t that petty.”

My face went cold.

I never wore that necklace again.

Two months ago, Ethan and I had agreed to go camping and watch a meteor shower.

When I opened the passenger door, Olivia was sitting there.

For a second, I almost stopped breathing.

I turned to Ethan and asked, “Why is she here too?”

Ethan looked confused by my question, as if I were being unreasonable.

“Claire, it’s just a meteor shower.”

We stood there at a standoff. His face grew colder and colder.

In the end, he said, “If you don’t want to go anymore, you can go home by yourself.”

That day, I finally understood what that name, the one his friends used to avoid mentioning, meant to him.

Ten years of knowing each other.

Five years together.

Three years apart.

I understood what all of that meant to him.

I understood it from the way Ethan lost focus the first time he saw Olivia after she came back.

I understood it from the way he always listened so intently when she spoke, with a soft smile at the corner of his mouth that even he didn’t seem to notice.

My breathing trembled.

Still, I stubbornly told him, “It’s New Year’s Eve. I just want it to be the two of us.”

“Ask her to leave, okay?”

Ethan was silent for a moment.

Then he said, “Claire, it’s just New Year’s Eve. There’s nothing special about it. Don’t be so dramatic.”

“Besides, the truth is, I’ll be spending tonight on a plane with Olivia.”

I froze completely.

After a long, slow breath, I asked, “Since she loves inserting herself into our business so much, will she sleep between us when we’re in bed too?”

“Claire!” Ethan cut me off sharply.

Olivia’s face went pale.

Ethan’s brows locked together, and his expression turned fully cold.

“Since when did you become this petty and cruel with your words?”

“I’ll let it go this time. But if there’s a next time…”

“Claire, maybe we should get divorced.”
