My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 05

My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 05

Alonzo stared at me in disbelief, as if I were the one being unreasonable.

“What are you talking about?”

I ignored his tone and kept speaking, glancing at Makayla beside him.

“And you can drop the tragic heroine act. For your sake, Alonzo won’t even turn on the lights at night. He moved into the guest room just to lull

you to sleep, and he even forgot my birthday just to create ‘happy memories‘ for you.

“I am grateful that you saved his life, which is why I’ve put up with this for as long as I have.

“Since I’m the one who can see you, you’re just an ordinary woman to me–and right now, you’re the one destroying my marriage.

“If you two want to carry on with this ghostly romance, be my guest. But I’m done playing along.

“My lawyer will handle the divorce. Alonzo, make sure you cooperate.”

I said it all in one breath, and it must have finally clicked for Alonzo that I was serious.

When I mentioned my forgotten birthday, a flash of panic crossed his

eyes.

But he refused to back down in front of me, and he clearly didn’t want his former junior to see him lose face.

He stood there defiantly and mocked me. “Are you joking? What gives you the right to file for divorce?

“Who is going to believe you?”

I looked him dead in the eye. “I’ll find a way.

“You know me–I never quit until I get what I want.”

We ended things on bitter terms.

Perhaps out of spite, he stopped resisting Makayla’s advances altogether.

She clung to him like an accessory, constantly whispering in his ear.

Taking advantage of being invisible to everyone else, she sat directly on his lap more than once while he was in the middle of meetings.

Eventually, she even started kissing him out of nowhere while he was mid–sentence.

From where I sat, I could practically see the physiological changes in Alonzo’s body.

As if trying to provoke me, he even glanced my way.

But my expression remained blank as I steadily focused on my work.

Every time this happened, his eyes would darken, and the tension in the room would become stifling. I knew his team members would soon bear the brunt of his misplaced rage.

Once, he caught me after a meeting. “Jazlyn, seeing us like this–do you regret it?

“Take back what you said about the divorce, and I’ll let the past be the

past. We can go back to how things were.”

I looked at him with a faint, mocking smile. “You feel nothing at all for Makayla?”

Alonzo froze and glanced instinctively at Makayla, who was staring at him expectantly.

He hesitated for a moment, then said, “You’re my wife. How could you even ask that?”

He wouldn’t give a straight answer.

Makayla looked disappointed too.

I almost laughed. I pointed toward his lap. “Can’t your words be as honest as your body, three–minute man?

“So you can separate sex from feelings, is that it?

“You can get turned on even by a ghost. What the hell is wrong with you?”

Alonzo instinctively moved to cover himself, his expression souring instantly.

He glanced at the curious colleagues around him and managed to keep his temper in check, only hissing through gritted teeth, “Jazlyn, you’ve really crossed the line this time.

“I hope you don’t regret this.

I did regret it.

I regretted not filing for divorce sooner.

Any relationship that makes me miserable should be left behind,

regardless of the reason.

But Alonzo was right about one thing.

On the surface, there appeared to be nothing wrong with our marriage, to the outside world, we even seemed deeply in love.

His “mistress” was someone with no legal identity in this world. If I filed for divorce on those grounds, everyone would just think I’d lost my mind.

Still, I had no intention of being tied to them for the rest of my life.

Since Alonzo refused to cooperate, my only option was to work with my lawyer to gather evidence.

One day, while reviewing documents, my lawyer suddenly looked up.

“The records regarding your husband’s car accident don’t match the details you gave us.

“What?”

“On the day of your husband’s accident, there were actually two crashes around the same time. One was Mr. Plumridge’s, and the other involved a drunk driver street racing.”

I took the documents and flipped through a few pages. My fingers suddenly froze mid–motion.

“You always said the person who saved him was a girl with the last name Lyddington,” the lawyer paused. “But the police reports and witness statements show the one who rescued him that day was a young man–an orphan who had just turned 18. His name wasn’t Lyddington either. He died young saving someone, and there was no one to even claim his body.

“As for the girl who died in the other crash… her last name was Lyddington.”
