He Wrapped Me Up for His Crush. Now I Live in His Head. Chapter 13

Meanwhile,

Logan’s world had collapsed. He thought Avery was just throwing a tantrum and would come back after a few days of coaxing.

But she really didn’t want him anymore. After Briarwood that day, he locked himself in his room, replaying every moment of the past years.

Avery had always followed him.

Wherever he went, she went.

Whatever he said, she listened.

When he got angry, she’d carefully soothe him.

When he was happy, she was even happier.

He’d taken her presence for granted.

Like breathing. Only when she disappeared did he realize he was suffocating.

No one saved him seats anymore.

No one brought him breakfast sandwiches, walked home with him, or sat beside him when he was down. No one remembered all his favorites.

More importantly.

No one looked at him with that gentle gaze anymore, like he was her whole world, like he was the stars and the moon.

Harper still came around.

But he suddenly found it meaningless. Her pouting, her fake vulnerability, all annoyed him now.

Logan later realized Harper couldn’t compare to Avery at all. Everyone called her Queen Harper, but the more he looked, the emptier she seemed. Avery wasn’t flashy and dressed plainly, but when she smiled, he felt calm.

She never used his affection as leverage. She never laughed at his flaws.

She always remembered he liked sweets, so she kept candy in her bag.

Before rain, an umbrella would appear on his desk. When he got stuck on a math problem, she’d take the pen and explain until he understood.

Those little things had come so naturally before that he thought they were supposed to be there.

As for Harper, she was used to being worshipped and took everyone’s efforts for granted.

When people called her Queen Harper, she’d just smile and accept it like it was her due.

Logan regretted it. He couldn’t understand why he’d pushed Avery that far just to make Harper smile.

Was Queen Harper’s small smile really worth Avery’s tears that day?

He remembered the look in Avery’s eyes when they finally cut her down.

There was pain, anger, and a disappointment he’d never seen before. She’d hung there for two hours, mocked by everyone, even spat on.

And he’d smiled and called it a prank.

He really was awful.

After that, Logan went to Briarwood often.

Every weekend he’d stand at the school gate waiting for her, only daring to watch from afar.

Avery never acknowledged him. Sometimes when she saw him, she’d just take another path like avoiding something dangerous.

He wanted to explain. Wanted to apologize. But she never gave him the chance.

One time he finally managed to corner her.

“Avery, I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. Please forgive me?”

She looked at him calmly.

“Logan, you know some things can’t be fixed with an apology. Like a broken mirror. No matter how you glue it back, the cracks will still show.”

“We can’t go back.”

Then she walked away, leaving him standing alone in the wind.

Yeah. There was no going back. He had destroyed it himself.
