To Get Revenge on My Bully I Decided to Seduce Her Fiancé Chapter 08

When the doorbell rang, I thought it was Harrison.

I was holding Lucky, smiling as I opened the door.

“Your girl’s been begging for freeze-dried treats all morning…”

I froze.

Sloane was standing there, arm linked through Harrison’s.

Harrison pulled his arm away.

His gaze was fixed on me, cold and distant—none of the usual warmth left.

My chest dropped.

I held Lucky tighter without meaning to.

He yowled and squirmed out of my arms.

“Lena Vance… or should I say, Elena.”

Sloane waved a folder in her face. I could see my old photos peeking out.

“Knew you looked familiar.”

Her lip curled, cruel and smug.

“So you’ve been throwing yourself at taken men since you were a kid? Born a cheap little slut, I guess.”

She tugged on Harrison’s arm.

“I told you she was using you. She only got close to you to get back at me!”

Harrison stared right into my eyes.

The light was fading behind him, his face half in shadow.

I couldn’t read his expression.

“I had someone look into it. Someone’s been on my computer. Someone’s been going through the files in my study.”

“You said you loved skiing. All of that? I posted about it in college. I asked the lake owner. You’d never been fishing there before a few months ago. Elena, tell me this is all a coincidence.”

In that second, I knew there was no point lying.

I looked at him for a long time.

Then I smiled, bitter and self-mocking.

“I knew you’d find out eventually. Just didn’t think it’d be this soon.”

“Harrison. None of it was a coincidence. I got close to you on purpose to get back at Sloane. But you caught me. I made my bet, and I lost. I’ve got nothing else to say.”

Sloane’s red lips curled into a smile.

“Elena. Trash stays trash. Doesn’t matter how much time passes.”

She stepped forward and patted my cheek.

“You thought I’d get what I deserved? people like you—bottom of the barrel—you barely even count as human. You’re just a waste of space.”

“Being my little toy was the most useful you’ll ever be. You should thank me.”

“Get back at me?”

She leaned in, whispering in my ear, triumphant.

“Want to get back at me? Try again in your next life—if you even get one.”

Only two months. But my things were everywhere in this apartment.

The summer slippers Harrison bought me, the fuzzy winter pair he’d picked out ahead of time—one white, one gray, his and hers, sitting side by side.

Our matching mugs, powder blue, with a stupid cheesy heart in the middle I’d made fun of.

Now one was gone, leaving the other half broken and alone.

Our pajamas hanging next to each other. Our pillows side by side.

The blanket we shared on the couch.

I stood in the middle of the living room.

A dull, suffocating ache closing tight around my chest

It was all supposed to be an act.

But somewhere along the way, I’d fallen for real.

I closed my eyes. Grabbed my two suitcases and headed for the door.

As I walked past Harrison, he spoke, out of nowhere.

“Does it hurt?”

My voice was flat, numb.

“What does it matter? You gonna help me?”

He went silent.

I wiped the corner of my eye.

Pulled the door open and left.
