He Threatened My Parents For His Assistant, Not Knowing She Was His Sister Chapter 01

My sister was hit and killed by my husband’s assistant on her way home from school. The assistant was drunk driving.

The girl died on the way to the hospital.

I immediately filed a lawsuit against the assistant.

But on the day of the hearing, my parents were tied up in an abandoned factory with bombs strapped to their bodies.

Ethan looked down at me, his voice ice-cold.

“Drop the case, or I can’t promise those bombs won’t go off. Your sister’s already dead. Why ruin another girl’s life?”

“Your sister ran into the road out of nowhere. Scarlett panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake. If anything, your sister got herself killed.”

He thought the dead girl was my sister.

That’s why he threatened me with my parents’ lives.

I laughed coldly.

“Withdrawing the case requires the victim’s family to sign off. I don’t have that authority.”

******

Ethan was famous for doting on his sister.

If she so much as scraped a knee, he’d tear the whole city apart looking for someone to blame.

When she got to high school, he sent her to a girls’ academy that cost over ten million a year—just to keep her away from the wrong crowd.

When I refused to sign, Ethan’s face darkened.

“I’m not asking, Claire. I’m telling you.”

“Scarlett just graduated college. Are you really going to destroy her life over this?”

“Your sister would’ve married into another family anyway. I’ll pay your parents more compensation. Consider it a favor to them.”

He glanced at my parents tied to their chairs, a quiet threat in his eyes.

“Make your decision fast. I can’t promise those explosives will wait.”

I stared at his smug face, my chest hollow with cold.

To save Scarlett, he was willing to threaten my parents’ lives.

I watched the countdown timer on the bombs, my heart ripping apart.

“Ethan, she was our sister! She was run over alive!”

Ethan’s eyes went flat. He corrected me coldly.

“Your sister. Not mine.”

I laughed again, bitter.

One word—our—and he was already distancing himself.

If he knew the dead girl was his own sister, would he still force me to sign that leniency waiver?

Ethan’s parents died when he was eighteen. His uncle tried to take the inheritance by kidnapping him and his sister.

His sister held off the kidnappers alone so Ethan could escape. She was tortured for three days.

When they found her, she was barely alive.

From that day on, Ethan swore he’d protect her. He’d never let anyone hurt her.

Just thinking about what his sister went through made my throat tighten.

“Ethan, did you know she was still alive after the first hit? Scarlett reversed the car and ran over her again. On purpose. So she wouldn’t have to deal with hospital bills or recovery.”

Ethan didn’t flinch. He tossed the leniency waiver onto the table in front of me.

“That was just a death rattle. She was already gone. You’re just torturing your parents by keeping her alive. Let her go and take the money.”

I saw the contempt in his eyes, and something inside me froze solid.

“Ethan, she was out buying your birthday cake when Scarlett hit her.”

He looked down at me, his gaze empty.

“She was just sucking up to our family. I didn’t ask her to.”

“Sign the paper. Stop wasting time.”

His hand pressed down on my shoulder, forcing me to look at my parents shaking with terror.

Their bomb timers were in the final three minutes.

I gritted my teeth.

“Ethan, if my parents hadn’t used every connection they had to shut down your uncle, you wouldn’t be sitting in that CEO chair.”

Ethan’s eyes swept over my parents’ tired faces, dismissive.

“They were just kissing up to me. They wanted to keep you in that chair as Mrs. Vance.”

That was it. The final cut.

My nails bit into my palms. My voice came out between my teeth.

“Fine. I’ll sign.”

Ethan smiled, satisfied. He nodded to the guards.

“Let them go.”

Then he turned back to me, warning.

“I’m posting this waiver online. Don’t even think about a second lawsuit.”

He transferred ten million dollars to my account right there.

“Consider this your sister’s settlement. Stay away from Scarlett from now on.”

I looked at the string of zeros on my phone and hit the refund button without a second thought.

“Keep your blood money. I’m not the victim’s family.”
