The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 08

The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 08

“Enough, Cassian,” I cut him off.

“We are done. I want no handouts. Upon my return, I require only the signed dissolution agreement.”

His face crumples, as if I struck him.

He cannot fathom why, after his efforts, after removing his Beta for me, I treat him as a stranger.

“Seraphine. Ending our bond has never crossed my mind. You are my mate. Chosen by the Moon Goddess!”

“What must I do to make this right?”

Speaking to this self-centered Alpha drains the last of my strength.

Patience snaps. My voice turns cold, sharp.

“Cassian, you have always believed yourself the center of existence.”

“Any who gain your notice should worship eternally. Any you tire of should vanish silently.”

“You thought I was powerless, my wolf dying, able only to cling to you. Indulging me fed your heroism. Letting Vera torment me fed your control.”

“You believe all must orbit you. On what grounds?”

“I owe you nothing.”

“I need no guilt money. I need you gone from my life.”

Cassian looks as if I tore out his heart.

He lunges, grabbing my arm, face paper-white.

“Cassian,” I say evenly. “The Moon Goddess granted you many chances.”

But each time, you placed the blade in another’s hand and let them stab me with it.

I know Cassian is stubborn.

Ending things will not be swift or simple.

Yet I never imagined that after I flayed him with truth, he would appear at camp the next morning as if nothing occurred.

After sunrise, he arrives with the supply truck.

Cassian wears clean casual clothes, slipping back into his smooth charm.

“Elder Odric’s work is vital. I instructed finance to allocate funds for the entire expedition.”

He walks straight to me, ignoring stares and whispers, and offers an elegant glass vial.

The liquid within smells faintly sweet and cool.

“Seraphine, I lost control yesterday. I know.”

He pushes the vial toward me, eyes bright with hope and eagerness to please.

“My men gathered dew-claw herb juice from Frostfang Gorge overnight. I know you adore its scent. It aids recovery. The taste is mild.”

“Let me try again, yes?”

“All the romance I neglected? I shall make amends. I promise.”

Staring at the vial of dew-claw herb juice, procured through such effort,

I feel absurdity rise.

How can one ignore you utterly while you love him, yet act utterly devoted the moment you turn away?

And still, he believes I favor dew-claw herb.

I look up, meeting Cassian’s hopeful gaze.

He raises the vial higher.

“Seraphine, drink it. I recall you rising before dawn to harvest it, even in bitter cold.”

“No thanks,” I say, voice frost.

“I do not like dew-claw herb.”

“I went to Frostfang Gorge at sunrise because Vera desired it.”

“You do not remember?”

“I harvested for two full weeks before learning it was for her.”

“When I asked you, you said her wolf was injured, in pain, yet she disliked troubling the pack healer. So you had me risk frostbite to gather dew-claw herb for her.”

At first, I thought it was for Cassian. He had been overtraining.

Then I saw through the office window. He fed her water himself. Heard Vera giggle that she must “trouble Luna a few more times.”

Because if the Luna gathered it, the potency was superior.

That was when I understood who drank the potion I brewed through sleepless nights while my own fragile wolf suffered.
