My eyes widened.

In my memory, Julian had always been cold and proud.

He once said no one in the world was worth fighting for.

If this had happened before, maybe I would have been moved.

I would have worried too.

“Julian, are you insane?”

Mason took the punch and wiped the corner of his mouth.

He gave a cold laugh and rushed forward.

Neither man backed down.

The scene spiraled out of control.

“I like you.”

“From the first moment I saw you.”

I looked up at him.

Handsome.

Good body.

Rich.

The kind of man many people would like.

But I still shook my head.

“I don’t like you.”

To many people, love at first sight was romantic.

But maybe because I had never had a sense of safety growing up, I had always been cautious.

Even with Julian, I only confessed after secretly liking him for a year and confirming that he really was the person I wanted.

“I don’t know why you like me.”

Mason tried to explain.

Mason paused.

Not enough time for us to know each other.

Mason did not look embarrassed after being rejected.

“But I’m not trying to use my feelings to trap you.”

“Liking you is my business.”

“Whether you like me is your freedom.”

“If my feelings affect you, tell me immediately.”

“I’ll keep the right distance.”

“Right now, my own free will is telling me this.”

“I like you.”

“And I want to tell you that you’re wonderful.”

“So wonderful that it wouldn’t be strange for anyone to fall for you.”

We had dinner that night at a private kitchen.

Mason did exactly as he promised.

No overstepping.

No taking credit.

He expressed care at the right moments while always keeping a proper distance.

He drove me home too.

Standing beside the car, he watched me leave.

“Leah, I’m glad I met you.”

Something shifted in his eyes.

In the end, he only said:

“I hope we meet again.”

I waved at him.

“If it’s meant to happen.”

People who were meant to meet would meet again.

But I didn’t expect to see Julian again.
