He Tore Out My Walk-In Closet for Another Woman, So I Sold the Home and Canceled the Wedding Chapter 05

“What did you say?”

Ethan sounded like he hadn’t understood.

The employee could only repeat herself.

“Ms. Walker said the wedding isn’t happening, so she canceled her dress order.”

Ethan sat frozen, the phone still in his hand.

For more than ten seconds, he said nothing.

“That’s impossible.”

His voice was low.

“She was still home this morning. How could she…”

Then he stopped.

He finally remembered what I’d said.

“No. We’re not getting married.”

At the time, he hadn’t really listened.

Or maybe he’d heard me and simply hadn’t taken me seriously.

Ethan’s breathing grew heavier.

He ended the call and immediately dialed my number.

It went straight to voicemail.

He tried again.

Voicemail again.

He opened our message thread and typed, “Erin, where are you?”

The message wouldn’t deliver.

I’d blocked him.

Ethan stared at the screen as his fingers began to shake.

He tried every other way to reach me.

Calls, texts, social media.

Nothing worked.

That was when he understood that I had truly decided to end everything.

Next, he called the wedding planner.

“Ms. Walker already canceled the wedding. Under the contract, part of the deposit has already been refunded.”

“When?”

“Yesterday.”

All the color drained from Ethan’s face.

He called the hotel where we’d booked the reception and got the same answer.

“Ms. Walker canceled the venue yesterday afternoon. She said she didn’t need it anymore.”

The truth finally hit him.

I’d quietly canceled everything connected to the wedding.

Leaving hadn’t been a spur-of-the-moment decision.

I’d made up my mind to end our relationship long before I left.

This time, Ethan panicked.

He grabbed his car keys and rushed out, driving all the way to the new condo in Belltown.

The entire way, he kept telling himself I was only angry.

Maybe I was there.

Maybe if he could just see me, he could still get me back.

But when the elevator doors opened, he stopped cold.

A real estate notice was taped to the door.

Ethan called the agent immediately.

“Who said we’re selling the condo? Who gave you permission to list it?”

He was shouting now.

The agent sounded stunned.

“Mr. Carter, Ms. Walker contacted us yesterday at noon. She told us to sell it as fast as possible. The asking price is half the market value. She also made one thing very clear. She doesn’t care who buys it as long as it sells quickly.”

Ethan’s knees gave out.

He caught himself against the wall and slowly sank to the floor.
