I Took a Late Night Driving Job and Found My Ex Waiting Chapter 04

“Did you enjoy yourself today?” Olivia walked up to me with a smile.

I nodded. “Thank you…”

“As you can see.” She spun the ring on her left hand, matching Nathan’s. “We’re engaged.”

“Yeah.” My voice was barely audible.

“Do you regret it?”

I blinked. Olivia’s lips curled into a smile. “For being so proud and stubborn that you let a man like this slip through your fingers?”

I couldn’t speak. The metallic taste in my throat was intensifying.

Olivia leaned in, letting out a soft laugh. “But regret or not, it doesn’t matter anymore. Agreeing to let my fiancé spend today with you—that was to honor the last of our friendship.”

“After today, you and he are done. Completely.”

I dropped my gaze and nodded.

“Our wedding is at the end of this month.” She handed me an invitation. “You’re welcome to come. Of course, you don’t have to. It’s up to you.”

I smiled and waved it off. “I won’t be able to make it.”

By the end of the month, would I even still be alive?

Nathan gave me a cold look. Olivia didn’t push. She tucked the invitation back. “Suit yourself.”

That day, Olivia had someone drive me home.

On the morning they left for their city, I got up early to see them off. My wedding gift to them was a simple handmade card.

Olivia didn’t refuse. Just like when we were kids and I gave her birthday cards, she tucked it away carefully, but her tone was cold and formal now. “Thank you.”

The plane was boarding. Nathan pulled Olivia to his side and turned to me. “Delete my number. After this, we’re done.”

My throat burned. I forced a smile. “Safe flight.”

The plane took off, and only then did I turn away. The blood I’d been holding back surged up. I coughed violently and collapsed to my knees.

Death was coming faster than I thought.

Nathan didn’t need to tell me to delete his contact. I wouldn’t be able to contact him after this anyway.

Before my eyes closed, I heard the roar of engines, the shouts of airport staff, and… Nathan?
