I Came Back As A Zombie And They Wanted My Kidney Chapter 03

Seraphina hadn’t even scraped her skin in the fall, but she milked it for all it was worth, faking a concussion and multiple soft tissue injuries while moaning and whimpering in bed.

Mom and Dad called the family doctor.

Doctor Logan was a top specialist, who exclusively treated wealthy and powerful families.

He ran a full checkup on Seraphina and prescribed some calming, brain-nourishing medication.

Seraphina leaned against the headboard, weakly taking Mom’s hand.

“I’m fine, Mom. Just need rest.”

“But Wren looks pale. Get Doctor Logan to check her too. I’m worried.”

Eleanor teared up at her “kindness.”

“You’re too good for this world. She tried to hurt you, and you’re still worried about her?”

Dash snorted. “She’s not sick. Her soul’s rotten.”

Still, Eleanor sent for me.

The maid still called me down to the living room. The second I sat down, the strong perfume smell made Logan frown deeply.

“Let me check your pulse, Miss Holloway.”

He took out his stethoscope and slipped it around his neck. Before I could react—thanks to my slow zombie brain—the chest piece was already pressed to my chest.

Oh no. I was too slow to say no. I was a zombie. Where was I supposed to get a heartbeat?

One second. Two. Ten.

No heartbeat.

His brow furrowed deeper and deeper, fine beads of sweat popping up on his forehead.

He moved the stethoscope. Listened again.

Still nothing.

“This… this can’t be…” he mumbled to himself, his hands shaking like leaves in the wind.

Harrison leaned in. “What is it? What’s wrong with her?”

Doctor Logan tried again.

Silence. Just the clock ticking.

Tick. Tock.

Not a single sound came through the stethoscope.

He ripped the stethoscope off and stumbled backward into a chair, and plopped down heavily on the sofa.

“No heartbeat!”

“She has no heartbeat!”

Everyone stared at me like I’d grown a second head.

I froze inside.

Think. Think of something.

Half a minute later, I opened my mouth.

“Oh. I have arrhythmia.”

“Sometimes my heart just… takes a break.”

Doctor Logan looked like he was about to pass out.

Dash lunged forward and grabbed my collar.

“Quit the creepy act!”

“What kind of arrhythmia stops your heart completely? What are you playing at?”

I pointed at my chest. Dead serious.

“I was holding my breath.”

Doctor Logan checked his stethoscope. Probably thought it was broken.

Dash laughed coldly.

“You’re faking this to get out of the transplant. Pathetic.”

Harrison slammed his hand on the table.

“Enough! Stop embarrassing us.”

“Lock her in her room. No one sees her without my say-so.”
