Future Him Warned Him About My Unhinged Side Chapter 04

Sienna flinched, burying her head even deeper into his chest. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I let out a cold laugh. “That’s not how post-traumatic stress disorder works, Sienna. Trust me.”

Ethan abruptly stood up, shielding her behind him like a solid brick wall. “Enough, Chloe! If you have a problem, take it out on me. Stop acting like you know everything, and I won’t tolerate you vilifying her any longer.”

Of course I knew everything about it. I had been living with the exact same diagnosis for over a decade.

It started the day I watched my mother die with my own eyes. Whenever the memory of the crimson blood spreading beneath her broken body surfaced, I couldn’t stop vomiting, crying, and cutting myself.

I had never told a soul that my mother had jumped from a building. She did it because my father had fallen in love with another woman.

I had once sworn to myself that I would never step foot into the cage of marriage.

But Ethan had staked the entire future of Vance Global and the rest of his life just to give me his solemn vow that he would never betray me.

I truly believed I wouldn’t repeat my mother’s tragic history.

Yet, here I was, walking down the exact same path she did—hysterically accusing my husband, followed by a spectacular, world-shattering self-destruction.

But I didn’t want to live like this anymore.

I reached into my bag, intending to pull out the divorce agreement I had already signed.

Ethan’s face twisted in sudden panic. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

“Get her!”

Before my fingers could even wrap around the paperwork, the bodyguards slammed me onto the floor again with brutal force.

Ethan strode over and kicked my bag completely out of reach, the impact sending a violent, numbing jolt straight through my palm.

“As long as there is breath left in my body, you will not touch a single hair on her head!”

I stared blankly up at his eyes, which were a volatile mix of terror and absolute fury.

Suddenly, a memory flashed through my mind. One night, he had quietly slipped out of bed while he thought I was fast asleep.

Assuming he was sneaking off to see Sienna, I had trailed behind him in the dark. I overheard him frantically asking someone over the phone if the Chloe Reynolds ten years from now would still be unhinged. He asked if his staying alive would be enough to protect Sienna.

I hadn’t understood his words back then. But now, everything finally clicked.

That was the phone call from ten years in the future he had mentioned. He was genuinely, deeply terrified of me.

No matter what I did now, his immediate instinct would always be to assume I was trying to harm Sienna.

With my face pinned flat against the marble floor, the biting cold seeped into my skin, feeling exactly like the state of my heart.

I let out a miserable, hollow smile. “The divorce agreement is in the bag. I’ve already signed it.”

Still deeply suspicious, Ethan cautiously walked over and dumped out the contents of my bag. The moment his eyes scanned the signature page, he instantly ripped the documents into shreds.

“I told you already! I am not divorcing you!”

I looked at him, completely unbothered. “Just because of that phone call?”

Sienna tugged weakly at his sleeve. “What phone call, Ethan?”

“It’s nothing,” he muttered.

“But you promised you were going to build a home with me,” she whispered, her eyes brimming with tears.

Ethan clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white, a dark flush creeping up his neck. “Don’t ask so many questions. Just know that everything I am doing is for your own good, understand?”

Sienna’s tears finally spilled over. Looking at her with heartbreaking devotion, he gently wiped the moisture from her face. “Except for a legal title, I will give you absolutely everything else.”

Those words were meant for my ears, too. Except for a legally binding title, he would never give me anything else again.

Suddenly, the whole thing just felt utterly meaningless.

“You can sign the papers without fear, Ethan. I’m not going to burn her alive,” I said flatly. “That phone call you received… I hired someone to make it using a voice changer.”
