I Prepared Our Wedding, For His Another Bride Chapter 06

I checked myself into a rehabilitation clinic in New York. Above all else, healing my body was my top priority.

Days slipped by in quiet, uneventful cycles of sunrise and sunset. I forced myself to push all the pain from

Seattle out of my mind.

One afternoon, I sat out on the terrace scrolling Instagram when Cyrus’s post popped up. I meant to swipe

past, yet my thumb froze mid-screen.

It only held a single line of text: My wedding to Elowen will proceed as planned. Everything before was just a

misunderstanding-sorry for the confusion, everyone.

Attached was a half-edited wedding preview shot he’d gotten from me ages ago; the gown’s train hadn’t even

been fully retouched yet.

I’d complained nonstop about how terrible the photo editor was and begged him to follow up on the edits for me. Now he’d reposted it for all our mutual contacts to see.

Comments had already piled up. Leo left a lone question mark. Other shared acquaintances chimed in one

after another.

“What’s going on?”

“Did you reschedule the date?”

I didn’t scroll further. My finger hovered over his contact number for two beats, then I hit dial.

It rang twice before he picked up. Cyrus’s voice carried a faint, unconsciously light lilt at the end of his words. “Oh, finally decided to call me?”

I ignored his jab entirely. “Delete that Instagram post. The wedding’s canceled, we have no ties to each other anymore. Don’t make our friends and family show up for nothing.”

Silence hummed down the line for a second, then a low laugh rumbled out of him.

“Elowen.” He said my name like I was a misbehaving child he had to reprimand.

“You left a total mess behind and bailed, leaving me to clean everything up alone. You fully refunded the hotel deposit, and I’ve had to call every single relative and friend to smooth things over-everyone’s blowing

up my phone asking what happened.”

He paused briefly. “You spent all this time throwing fits saying I never valued you enough, remember?”

His tone softened, edged with forced patience meant to soothe me. “I went out of my way to post that update to clear everything up for you, and now you’re telling me to take it down? I finally put you first like you

always wanted-isn’t this enough to make you happy?”

My brows knotted tighter by the second. I couldn’t stand to listen another word and cut him off short. “Cyrus,

I’m telling you to delete it. We’re completely done, no more connections whatsoever. I’ve said all I need to

say.”

I pulled the phone away from my ear and hung up.

A week later, the clinic room door swung open.

Cyrus stood in the doorway, his trench coat stiff with cold from outside.

He scanned the room, tugging a half-hearted, cold smirk onto his face. “Elowen, you sure know how to hide

away.”

He stepped inside, his leather shoes thudding heavily against the floorboards.

“This place is nice, real cozy. I’ve been searching everywhere for you, and you’re hiding out here living the quiet life. Do you have any idea how worried I-”

He balled a fist to cover his mouth and coughed twice, swallowing the rest of his sentence.

I said nothing, staring off to the side.

He took my silence as defiance and stepped closer, towering over my seated form. “Stand up. You’re coming

with me.”

I lifted my gaze to meet his eyes and stayed rooted in place.

Cyrus’s patience snapped completely. He bent down, wrapped a bruisingly tight grip around my wrist like he

meant to crush my bones, and hauled me roughly out of the chair.

“Cyrus-!” I cried out, thrashing wildly to break free.

He swept me up bridal-style and turned to storm out of the door.

“What are you doing?”
