“Come back with me, Elodie. Let’s start

over.”

“The casino can’t run without its queen. I can’t live without you.”

I pulled the blade back and answered him flatly.

“Dream on. I will never forgive you.”

His eyes turned red.

“Elodie, I know I was wrong.”

“Everything that happened… it was my fault. Let’s just start again, please?”

I heard footsteps behind me and knew he hadn’t come alone.

I took a step back, my right hand slipping quietly into my pocket to press a tiny button.

It was the emergency tracker Leo had given me.

Alaric forced me into a car and sped

toward the airport.

On the way, he took a video call.

On the screen, Chloe was tied to a chair, a baby in her arms.

My most trusted contact held a knife to

Chloe’s throat.

“Let Elodie go. Or you’ll never see your wife and child again.”

Alaric’s face was a blank mask. He even

managed a faint smile.

“Do what you want. The two of them together aren’t worth a single hair on Elodie’s head.”

On the other end of the call, Chloe’s eyes widened in horror. Her body went limp, as if her bones had been removed.

Alaric hung up, his gaze falling back on

“Now no one can get between us.’

He had truly gone insane.

When the car screeched to a halt at the

airport entrance, several cars converged

from different directions, surrounding us.

The doors flew open, and Leo rushed out with his men.

“Alaric McCall, let my sister go!”

The gunfire erupted almost simultaneously.

I couldn’t tell who fired the first shot. The

world dissolved into chaos.

Alaric shielded me with his body, pulling me behind him to block the stray bullets flying through the air.
