Accidentally Yours Chapter 01

Accidentally Yours Chapter 01

Thorne Ashford had a crush on my sister and wanted to confess, but he accidentally added my

iMessage instead.

Completely clueless, I ended up chatting with him online for the better part of a year.

Then, the night before we were supposed to meet in person, we hopped on a voice call, and he

suddenly blurted out my sister’s name.

That was when I realized just how monumentally screwed up this whole thing was.

Thinking back on all the ridiculous, intimate things we’d done over those six months, I immediately blocked him and caught a red-eye flight to France.

I was gone for three whole years.

Until Isolde got engaged, and I had no choice but to come back home.

At the welcome dinner, Thorne was there.

I naturally assumed he was my sister’s fiancé.

Pushing down the awkwardness bubbling in my chest, I politely greeted him.

“Hi. So you’re my sister’s fiancé.”

The man, who had been looking completely bored up until that moment, snapped his head up the

second he heard my voice.

The moment those words left my mouth, Thorne lifted his gaze to mine, a flicker of light passing

through his eyes.

Before I could get a closer look, my sister Isolde came charging over.

She clapped a hand over my mouth and dragged me in front of another man entirely.

“This one. Thisone is my fiancé.”

Right. How could I have forgotten? Isolde has always had someone she loves.

Thorne and I were just two pitiful souls stuck in unrequited love.

All these years in France, I’d made a point of avoiding news from back home.

Even when I chatted with Isolde, I was careful not to ask too many questions.

Too afraid of hearing something I didn’t want to hear.

So I had no idea that Isolde’s fiancé was actually her first love, Dorian Hale.

“This one’s a catch. Good choice.”

I gave an awkward laugh and said another hello to Dorian.

But I was really curious.

Three years ago, Thorne was so hung up on Isolde he couldn’t even muster the courage to say hi.

Now here they were, acting like old friends who’d known each other for years.

So, trying to sound casual, I asked, “Isolde, how did you guys get to know Thorne?”

Isolde never holds back with me.

She said she met Thorne not long after I went abroad.

“Honestly, I really regret not meeting him sooner. He’s been a total godsend for me and Dorian. You’ve been gone all these years, you have no idea how much he’s helped us out.”

“Thorne graduated two years ahead of us. Back then, there was so much I didn’t know, and he taught me everything. And last year, when Dorian’s company hit a rough patch, he was the one who

smoothed things over.”

Isolde went on and on about how great Thorne was, but she didn’t seem to realize that everything

he did went way beyond what a normal friend would do.

I tried to give her a subtle hint. “Isolde, it’s been this long. Haven’t you ever noticed anything…

off?”

Isolde blinked at me, totally confused. “Oh! That reminds me, I got you a cake. I’ll go grab it right

now.”

Isolde’s obliviousness was something I knew all too well.

Back then, Thorne had asked a friend to get Isolde’s iMessage, and Isolde, in her usual fog, had given them mine instead.

And just like that, the whole mess began.

Thorne thought he was adding Isolde, and I thought my aloof, longtime crush actually liked me

back.

During that time, we talked about everything.

We even spent countless late nights listening to each other’s voices while taking care of our own

business.

Just thinking about it now makes my face burn.

It all came crashing down the night before we were supposed to meet. In the heat of the moment

Thorne moaned Isolde’s name.

Isolde Winthrop.

I’m Elara Winthrop.

Same last name, but two completely different people.

In that instant, it was like a bucket of ice water was dumped over my head, dousing every last romantic thought I had.

That’s when I knew. The person Thorne really loved was Isolde.

So what was I then?

A stand-in?

A joke?
