“I’m the one who marked you!”

I staggered up. The spot where she’d slammed into me throbbed.

But I didn’t care.

“I watched her shield him. My heart shattered-

a thousand times worse than my bleeding body.

Nina stood in front of Nick, shielding him like some rare treasure.

“I’m your mate!” My voice was shredded, barely human. “I put that mark on you. Can’t you sme Il me? Can’t you feel what I feel for you?”

“Nina, look at me-” I begged, broken. “Love me one more time.”

Finally, she looked at me.

But her eyes were flat. None of the love that used to be there.

“Your mark,” she said, each word precise, “means nothing to me.”

Nothing.

It hit me like a lightning strike. I stared at her, taking one tentative step forward.

Her body locked up instantly-a mother wolf guarding her cub, ready to slam into me again.

“You’re really protecting him that much?” My voice shook. “You’d hurt me… for him?”

“Did you forget? You used to cry if I got hurt. Nina, can we go back?”

“Don’t call me that. It’s disgusting.” She cut me off, voice coated in revulsion.

“The past is the past. Now, Winder, I don’t love you anymore. Wake up.”

She didn’t love me.

Something in my head snapped clean in two.

I lunged, reaching for her arm. Didn’t even touch her.

Nick exploded up, ramming into me with everything he had.

I was thrown backward-

Vision blotting out.

Then I heard someone calling.

“Alpha… Alpha…”

Far away. Then closer.

“Alpha!”

The voice spiked, tearing through the fog in my brain.

I opened my eyes.

White ceiling.

Air reeking of disinfectant and meds.

A hospital.

I tried to sit up. Body stiff, leaden.

A face appeared above me-my Beta.

“Alpha! You’re finally awake!” His voice cracked with relief and tears.

I stared at him, head spinning with her.

Nina saying she didn’t love me…

“Where’s Nina?” I rasped.

The Beta’s face froze.

“I asked you where Nina is!” I heaved myself up, yanking the IV out. Blood sprayed. I grabbed his collar. “Did she leave with Nick? Did she?!”

“Alpha! Calm down!”

“Answer me!”

Alpha…” He hesitated. “You’ve been asleep… for two months.”

My grip loosened.

“Two months ago, you went to the Blue Moon Pack for the bride. You got hurt fighting the guards…” His voice trailed off.

“After you collapsed, we brought you back. Doc said you were fine, but you just… wouldn’t wake up.”

Two months.

I’d been out for two months…

“Where’s Nina?” I asked, carefully.

The Beta looked down, his lips moving silently.

“Nina… mated with Nick, the Blue Moon Alpha. Two months ago.”

“And…” He flinched, like he was afraid to go on.

“Say it.”

“She’s pregnant… They found out a month ago. Nick’s people even sent over wedding cakes…”

My chest caved in. I doubled over on the bed.

The dream replayed-

Her shielding Nick.

Her face when she said, “I don’t love you.”

The impact of her shoulder hitting my chest.

It had felt so real.

Real enough to believe it happened.

But it was just a dream.

“Alpha…” the Beta whispered.

I didn’t answer. Raised a hand to cover my eyes. When I spoke, my voice broke.

“Was all of that… just a dream?”

“I don’t believe it!”

I bolted upright and ran. Not giving a damn about anything else.

I had to see it with my own eyes.
