Twenty-four Hours Later, My Don Regreted Chapter 04

We linked arms and stepped into the main church space.

Carter family members screamed out loud the second they laid eyes on Chiara and the boy. Every Collins relative sat rigid, faces dark with suppressed fury.

The priest had gotten a heads-up from my bridesmaids beforehand. His voice shook as he called us forward to the altar.

Luca didn’t notice a single thing off about the crowd. Once we reached the altar steps, he leaned in and whispered to me.

“I’m impressed how calm you’ve stayed today. As a reward, I’ll skip Chiara’s place tonight for our wedding night. She even sent you a bridal gift—black lace lingerie. You’re always so stiff and boring in bed. You ought to take lessons from Chiara, learn how to please me better.”

He even patted the back of my hand proudly, full of self-satisfaction.

A wave of nausea crashed over me. For a split second, I almost raised my palm and slapped him square across the face.

Chloe tugged the hem of my wedding dress, snapping me back to focus.

I swallowed my disgust and walked the rest of the way up to the altar beside him.

The original itinerary was supposed to feature a timeline slideshow of us, heartfelt parent toasts, and a formal dinner reception prior to exchanging rings.

I’d had my bridesmaids scrap every single segment. The priest rushed through a short prayer, jumping straight to the ring ceremony.

The priest’s voice trembled as he spoke.

“Now, let us invite the groom, Luca, to place the wedding band upon our bride Elena’s finger.”

Cheers erupted from the Carter side of the pews. Every Collins family member shot straight to their feet.

Luca still hadn’t caught onto the chaos brewing around him. He grabbed the microphone from the priest, staring at me with fake, heartfelt warmth.

“Elena, seven years of love led us here. Marrying you is the greatest joy of my life. Elena, will you marry me?”

He handed the mic back to the priest, dropped to one knee, and reached for the ring box passed over by his groomsmen, ready to slide the band onto my finger.

I didn’t let him.

I snatched the ring out of his grasp and slipped it onto my own hand.

“Luca, listen close. I don’t want to marry you.”

Shock washed over his face. He’d never imagined I’d say that.

I stepped two paces backward, ripped the microphone straight from the priest’s hands, and shouted loud enough for every guest to hear.

“The real wedding reception starts now!”

The solemn church atmosphere blew apart instantly.

The soft organ wedding songs cut out, replaced by slow, somber funeral music.

Every projector displaying our couple photos flickered off, switching to the explicit video of Luca and Chiara tangled inside his Cadillac the night before.

The audio blared their crude noises over the speakers, and I spoke flatly into the microphone.

“Everyone, let me introduce this man—Luca, my boyfriend of seven years. For all those seven years, he’s kept another woman, and fathered a child with her. His mistress is sitting right there in the groom’s front row.”

I pointed directly at Chiara.

“He lied to every girlfriend he’s ever had, including me. Now that we’ve signed a legal marriage license, he’s demanding I become best friends with his side piece.”

I kicked off one high-heeled shoe and hurled it straight at Luca’s face.

“Do you truly think you’re untouchable as the Carter heir? That every woman on this planet has to bend over backward for you? Today you pay for every single lie you’ve told!”
