Twenty-four Hours Later, My Don Regreted Chapter 03

The kid ran straight over and wrapped his arms around Luca’s mother’s legs, yelling, “Grandma, I missed you so much!”

Panic flashed across her face instantly. She shot repeated, nervous glances my way.

Luca stayed nonchalant as ever.

“Mom, relax. I already told Elena all about Chiara. She didn’t throw a single fit. You picked such a reasonable wife for me. She’s so understanding.”

He grabbed Chiara’s hand, then reached for mine, trying to force our palms together.

“This is your first time meeting each other. Shake hands, get along. You two should grab coffee or go shopping together more often, build a bond.”

Chiara was just as shameless as I’d expected.

She squeezed my hand and flashed a sickly sweet smile.

“Elena, you’re just as gorgeous as Luca claimed. Hit me up if you ever wonder anything about him—we’ve been together twelve years, I know every single part of him. Emotionally, physically, all of it.”

She twisted back toward Luca, her tone unnervingly gentle.

“You hit the jackpot landing such a wonderful wife, all thanks to your mother. Don’t you dare mistreat her. She’s a Collins, after all. I pale in comparison—surviving off your family’s cash, stuck at community college, forced to have a kid young with no official claim to your name. You owe her real respect.”

Her tone was sugary sweet, but every word dripped with malice.

Luca’s mother’s face turned black with rage. “Enough, Luca! What were you thinking bringing her here?”

She roughly shoved the little boy away, desperate to look sincere in front of me.

The sight squeezed my chest tight, like hundreds of needles stabbing my heart.

Still, I held onto my composure and smiled coldly.

“Mom, it’s fine. I don’t waste energy arguing with someone who lacks basic decency. A dog can bite you, but you don’t stoop down to bite it back, right?”

It was just a small, sharp retort, but Luca’s expression turned icy in an instant.

“Cut it out, Elena. Stop stirring up trouble between Chiara and my mom. Can you stop being unreasonable? You’re picking fights on our wedding day.”

Tears stung the backs of my eyes.

How could I forget?

We’d signed the marriage license only yesterday morning at nine.

I’d been over the moon then, cycling through dozens of dresses, booking a salon to restyle my hair, trying on every pair of earrings I owned.

Everything shifted the second we signed that paper.

My chest ached raw, but I stared evenly at Luca.

“You think I’m picking fights, fine. Time’s almost up. Are you walking down the aisle to the altar alone with me, or are you bringing your mistress and your son along?”

Luca gritted his teeth and marched over to yank my arm. “I’ll give you the respect you deserve, don’t worry.”

After that words, he dragged me toward the church’s main aisle.

I used to live for Luca holding my hand.

Back when we were madly in love, I’d lay across his lap, twisting his fingers in mine and grinning.

“Promise you’ll never let go of my hand, Luca. Promise you’ll stay by my side forever.”

He’d smiled softly, pinching my nose gently.

“I promise. I’ll hold your hand every single day for the rest of our lives.”

The promise echoed hollow now.

His left hand clutched mine, while his right belonged to his lover and their child.
