I Planned to Announce My Pregnancy, Boyfriend and Bestie Announced Their Wedding Chapter 07

## [Nathan Hayes’s POV]

I watched Elena walk away, every instinct screaming at me to go after her.

But Pat grabbed my arm.

“Nathan! Vivi needs you!”

I stopped and watched her disappear into the distance, but in the end, I turned back. I told myself she was angry and wouldn’t listen to any explanation right now.

First, I had to get Vivian to the hospital.

The wedding ended in disgrace.

Guests went to the gift table near the door and took back their cash envelopes before leaving, shooting disgusted looks at Pat and Vivian.

“What rotten luck to have neighbors like them.”

Pat held Vivian tight. The video looped behind them.

I stood there staring at the screen as every sweet moment from our five years together turned into slow-acting poison.

When the pregnancy report and abortion record appeared side by side again, my eyes burned, and the tears came before I could stop them.

I clenched my fists until my nails cut into my palms, but regret still drowned out every rational thought.

The ambulance arrived quickly.

The paramedics monitored Vivian throughout the ride, but she never stirred.

I sat to one side with my fists beneath my chin, biting my fingertips until they bled.

Pat’s carefully styled hair had fallen into disarray as she clutched Vivian’s hand and begged God to save her daughter.

At Eldridge General Hospital, Vivian finally opened her eyes.

She winced and tried to sit up.

Before she was fully awake, I said coldly, “Vivian Chandler, you got the wedding you wanted. When are you going to donate your kidney to Elena?”

I stood beside her bed with none of my old warmth, only cold accusation.

Vivian gripped the sheets. Her voice shook.

“Nathan… do you really feel nothing for me?”

I frowned. “What did you say?”

Vivian threw off the covers and stepped toward me until she was almost nose to nose with me.

“Nathan, you said the vows yourself: for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. You promised never to leave me.”

Tears filled her eyes. She reached for my hand.

“You said it, Nathan. Are you going to break your word?”

I pulled my hand away, stepped back, and studied her.

Her hand hung in the air. After a beat, she let out a bitter laugh.

Something struck me, and I looked at her properly for the first time.

“Vivian Chandler… did you do all of this on purpose?”

She smiled through her tears.

“Nathan, you’re only figuring that out now? Isn’t it a little late?”

My chest hollowed out, and I froze.

Then I lunged forward and seized her shoulders, my eyes burning.

“Why? Vivian, why?”

She didn’t flinch. She looked straight at me, voice trembling.

“Nathan. Why can’t you ever see me?”

My knees buckled, and I sank to the floor.

A suffocating silence filled the room, and I could almost hear my heartbeat pounding against the floor.

Finally, I lifted my head, my voice raw.

“So Elena never had lupus and never needed a kidney transplant. That was all fake too?”

Vivian laughed, eyes swollen.

“A few forged medical records and a handful of lies were all it took to make you marry me.”

“Nathan… you didn’t love Elena that much anyway.”

Images of Elena flashed through my mind.

I saw the shattered look in her eyes when Vivian and I walked into her house, then the deadness in them after I shoved her to the floor.

I remembered her cold expression at the hospital when she said she wanted neither me nor the baby.

I remembered the day her mother died, when Elena needed me most, and how I stopped because Vivian shook her head.

At the wedding, Elena had walked away without a single backward glance.

I couldn’t bear to think any further.

Every memory seared my chest like red-hot iron.

I clutched my head, pressed it against the cold wall, and let out a desperate scream.
