I stared at him, completely lost.

I’d never seen this guy before. But he knew my name.

I stepped back, steadying myself. “Sorry. You’ve got the wrong person.”

I tried to walk around him.

He blocked me, getting to his feet with a smirk.

“No one messes with me and walks away. Sage. Don’t make me mad.”

His voice was light, smug, like this was all a game.

I didn’t want to play.

One last time.

“I don’t know where you got my name. But I’ve never met you. Please back off.”

He laughed like I’d told a joke.

Then his face dropped.

“Cut the act, Sage. Some girl DMed me from your alt account. Told me to confess to you right here. Said you’d go to a hotel with me after.”

One name hit me like a slap.

I hadn’t done anything with Griffin this time. Why was she still coming after me?

Brynn pushed through the crowd just then, with Griffin and his roommates behind her.

She saw the scene and beamed.

“Sage! You got a boyfriend and didn’t tell us? He’s cute!”

She laughed, giddy.

“Did I just hear ‘hotel’? Wow, Sage. I always pegged you as the good girl. Turns out you’re a lot more… adventurous than you look.”

“So are you still joining us for dinner? Or do you two need some… alone time?”

Everyone laughed along.

Everyone except one person.

I looked at Griffin. For the first time, I held his gaze.

I’d spent so long trying to stay out of his orbit. All because I didn’t want drama like this.

But it found me anyway.

So I stopped running.

I stepped forward, toward Brynn.

“Brynn. You used my alt account to message that guy. Then you set him up to confess to me.”

“Don’t you owe me an explanation?”
