I shook my head.

I wasn’t wearing Brynn’s clothes today. Griffin wouldn’t mistake me again.

Still, just in case, I pulled a mask out of my bag and put it on.

Brynn grabbed my arm and wouldn’t let go.

Annoyed, I pointed at the other roommate who was already dressed.

“I don’t have time. Send the other one.”

She perked up immediately.

“Brynn, I’ll go!”

She started for the door-but Brynn yanked her back, sharp and commanding.

“No. It has to be Sage.”

That set off alarms in my head.

Why was Brynn so insistent that I be the one to face him?

My phone buzzed.

Brynn glanced at it, panic flickering across her face.

Without missing a beat, she Venmoed me a hundred bucks.

“Please, Sage. Just this once. The money’s yours.”

A hundred bucks. That was a month’s worth of my two shifts. Two months of my grandpa’s

medication back home.

I did the math.

Running down to grab breakfast and face Griffin for thirty seconds? Maybe it was worth it.

[I’m lowkey worried though. That girl’s sketchy. She should not be letting her anywhere near Griffin.]

I doubled up my masks. Brynn even gave me a hat.

Fully covered, I went to meet Griffin.

He’d been waiting a while. Leaning against the fence across from the dorm, eyes locked on the

entrance.

The second I stepped out, he moved toward me.

“You didn’t add me. Why?”

I blinked, caught off guard.

Maybe Brynn and Griffin had talked about something I didn’t know.

I just wanted to get out. I reached for the breakfast bag.

He sidestepped. “Did I do something wrong?”

“Tell me. I’ll fix it.”

God, he talked a lot for someone known for being cold.

I glanced at the time. I was about to be late.

“I’m not Brynn. I’m her roommate. She sent me to pick up her breakfast.”

There. Done.

But he pulled back again, dodging my hand.

“I’m not here for her. I’m here for you.”
