Indeed Is My Weapon, Silence Is My Shield Chapter 03

Robert had never yelled at Isabel before. Her eyes welled up instantly.

She shot me a hateful glare. “Sorry! Happy?!”

Then she ran off, and in her rush, stepped right on Derek’s prone body. I caught his face twitch in pain before he went completely still again.

Such a fake. He was totally awake.

Margaret chased after Isabel. Robert ordered the staff to carry Derek to his room and walked off without another glance.

The DNA test idea got buried.

I hummed and strolled toward Isabel’s room.

Her door was open. Margaret’s voice drifted out. “Don’t cry, sweetheart. You’ll always be my daughter no matter what.”

Isabel sniffled. “What about her?”

Margaret hesitated. “She’s my daughter too. You two need to get along.”

“And honestly? You did accuse her of something she didn’t do, and she didn’t even hold it against you. I don’t think she’s as mean as Derek says.”

Wrong answer. Isabel burst into louder sobs.

I knocked on the doorframe. “Can I come in?”

Her sobs cut off abruptly, like someone had hit a switch. She didn’t say a word.

I didn’t wait for an invitation. I just pushed the door open and walked in.

Isabel glared at me, her eyes red and swollen. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to stay the night. You offered me the room, remember?”

Isabel’s face twisted with rage. She’d never expected anyone to take her fake generosity seriously.

Margaret jumped in. “Elena, honey, she was just being polite. She’s lived here forever, moving her out isn’t practical. How about you pick another room?”

I glanced around. The vanity was covered in limited-edition collectibles, not skincare. The bed was piled with plush dolls. Clearly a room built with love.

I patted Margaret’s shoulder. “Fair enough. Isabel’s settled into this room, and it wouldn’t be right to make her move. So I’ll take Derek’s instead.”

Margaret froze. “Derek’s room wouldn’t work either… How about the guest wing instead?”

I nodded. “You’re right. Derek’s room isn’t a good fit either. He’s a guy, and his space is a mess anyway. But the guest wing beds are like sleeping on concrete. I’d never get a wink of sleep.”

I smiled brightly. “How about I crash here with Isabel tonight? I’ll move out once the new mattress arrives.”

Isabel shrieked, “NO!”

But Margaret loved the idea. She figured sharing a room would help us bond as sisters, and she put her foot down on the spot.

Isabel’s tearful protests didn’t do her any good. Furious, she grabbed her pillow and stormed off to the guest wing.

The second Margaret left, I pulled out the hair I’d swiped from her shoulder earlier. Then I studied Isabel’s room and tucked another camera into a corner, just in case.

I rummaged through her vanity and found a few strands on her hairbrush.

If my hunch was right, the Shaws were in for a hell of a surprise.

Next morning, someone pounded on my door like they were trying to break it down.

I yanked it open, still half-asleep, and snarled, “What? You dying today or something?”

Derek, with Isabel right behind him, reared back. Then his face twisted and he swung at me.

“You have no shame, do you? Stealing Isabel’s room like that!”

I caught his wrist. All those years of Krav Maga—I’d be pathetic if I couldn’t handle Derek.

I rolled my eyes. Of course. This again. I’d been dragged out of bed for this nonsense, and I was in no mood.

I slapped him across the face. Hard.

“Stop shouting. You’re giving me a headache. If you didn’t want to give up the room, you shouldn’t have offered in the first place.”

“Now shut up and deal with it. I’m already in a bad mood, so push me again and I’ll rearrange your face. Now get out of my sight.”

Isabel gasped. “Elena! Are you crazy?! You can’t hit him like that!”

Derek had a heart condition. He wasn’t supposed to get worked up like that.
