His Son, Her Photo, My Turn Chapter 10

Jonathan stopped pacing, his voice trembling slightly “When did she start throwing things out?

‘Right after she was discharged from the hospital, sir,” the housekeeper replied “At first, it was just small decorative items. But later, she even went through all the designer jewelry you gave her over the years.”

“She threw that away too?”

“No, sit. She donated all of it to charity.”

“And then?”

“Then she started clearing out her own favorite wardrobe pieces. Once the house was empty, she stopped coming back here entirely.”

Jonathan collapsed heavily onto the empty sofa. “When was the last time she was here?”

“About two weeks ago, sir. Since you rarely returned recently, you probably missed her.”

It was true. Jonathan hadn’t slept at the mansion in a long time. He knew he should have spent more time with Valerie after she woke up from her coma, but Lily had been struggling with severe insomnia, and Baby Silas wouldn’t stop crying. Every time he intended to head home, they would inadvertently keep him there.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, thoroughly exhausted, and prepared to call his lawyer.

“Sir, there is an attorney outside who wishes to see you,” the maid announced before he could dial.

The attorney walked in and promptly placed a red, official divorce decree onto the glass table directly in front of Jonathan.

“Mr. James, I am here on behalf of my client, Miss Vance. I have been instructed to deliver your copy of the finalized divorce decree.”
