On My Wedding Day, I Married Someone Else Chapter 17

“Derek. Do you remember what else you said? The day you pulled out this ring and proposed.”

Derek froze. Searched his memory.

“I said… I would treasure you like this ring. Take care of you all my life. Never let you suffer a single moment of hurt.”

I lifted my eyes to his. No hate. Just dead calm.

“And did you? Even one small thing?”

“What makes you think I would forgive you. Again and again. With no limits. What makes you think I couldn’t live without you?”

Derek’s tears fell. Hit the cold flagstone. One after another.

“I was wrong. I was arrogant. I was a bastard. A spoiled, stupid bastard.”

My eyes held no ripple.

“Derek. Some wrongs can’t be forgiven just because you kneel. Some wounds stay forever.”

I took Ethan’s hand. Ready to go inside. Derek’s mother appeared from nowhere. Older. Ashamed. She blocked our path.

“Savannah. Child. Derek’s been an awful fool. But all those years. Since college. You can’t just throw it all away. He does love you. Deep down. He just lost his way for a moment.”

I looked at her. Calm. Almost cruel.

“Mrs. Sterling. Do you believe—right now, in this moment—if Tiffany called? If she cried once? He would get up off this ground and go to her. Without looking back.”

Mrs. Sterling stiffened. She looked at her son on his knees. Something hopeful in her eyes.

Derek’s face was panic. His mouth opened. But the hand holding his phone clenched tight. He couldn’t say a word. Because he knew. He might.

I shook my head gently.

“Mrs. Sterling. You’ve lived long enough. You know. Two people truly in love. It shouldn’t look like this. I’m so tired.”
