Selling Out My Godfather Husband Chapter 09

Selling Out My Godfather Husband Chapter 09

Meanwhile, I opened my eyes, my throat so dry I could barely make a sound.

“Am I… dead?”

A man’s soft laugh suddenly came from beside me.

I forced myself to turn my head.

The face I saw was the last one I had expected.

Enzo Vitale.

He was Luca’s younger uncle, raised abroad, a thorn in Luca’s side, and the one man in the Vitale family most likely to threaten his position.

Enzo set a glass of warm lemon water on the nightstand.

Then he helped me sit up with gentlemanly care and handed it to me.

“Can you drink on your own?”

“Yes.”

I silently took the glass, still reeling with shock.

“Did you save me?”

After I finished the water, I finally came back to myself and looked around.

“You listed me as your emergency contact.”

Enzo looked at me with amused interest.

“I was actually going to ask you why you made me your emergency contact.”

“That day, I was still in a family council meeting when my phone, which had been on silent, suddenly rang. The alert said you’d been in an accident and included your location.”

“By the time I got there, you already had one foot in the grave.”

“Lucky for you, you chose me. I actually had the ability to pull you back from the edge.”

Hearing that, I took out my phone in surprise.

Only then did I realize that when I had set up my emergency contact, my hand must have slipped. I had selected Enzo’s name instead of Luca’s.

I had never noticed it.

A moment of carelessness had somehow saved my life.

I leaned against the headboard, unable to calm down for a long time.

I had almost thought that even after being reborn, I still could not change my tragedy.

“Thank you so much for saving my life.”

I tried to sit up properly to thank him, but he firmly pressed me back down.

“I looked into what happened to you. You and Luca are divorced?”

Because of his childhood sweetheart?”

At the mention of the past, I still could not pretend it no longer hurt.

I only nodded lightly.

“Don’t worry. Since I went through so much trouble to save you, I made sure you’d be able to recover in peace.”

“I took care of the remaining security footage.”

“The private medical team treating you was brought in by me from overseas. Luca and the others won’t know where you are.”

I looked up in surprise. I had not expected him to handle everything so thoroughly.

“Thank you. Truly.”

My heart was full of complicated feelings. I had no idea how I could ever repay a debt like this.

Especially when my identity was so delicate. I was the ex-wife of Enzo’s enemy.

Enzo let out a soft laugh.

“If you’re that grateful, would you consider repaying me?”

“How? As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll do everything I can.”

Enzo handed me an invitation, his expression playful.

“Become my wife.”

I stared at him in disbelief, almost thinking I had misheard.

“What?”

Enzo tapped the blank line where the bride’s name should have been.

“I said, become my wife.”

“Luca has loved taking what belonged to me ever since we were children. He took educational opportunities, our elders’ attention, and the position of family heir. Now that I finally have the chance, I want him to taste what it feels like to have everything he treasures taken from him.”

“You know this. Back then, you risked everything to save the family. Many people in the family are loyal and grateful to you because of it. I need your help. I want to become the new Don of the Vitale family.”

“Will you be my new Donna?”

So this was a deal?

I looked at Enzo. “Are you offering your love in exchange for the loyalty I command?”

“No. I love you. When this family was at its lowest point, you were the one who reached out and helped us. You don’t understand how much going through hardship together means to me.”

“I had never seen a woman as resilient as you. But back then, you belonged to Luca, so I could only protect you from the shadows.”

“So now, will you give me a chance?”

Enzo leaned back.

“I’ve prepared everything: the wedding, the gown, and the diamond ring.”

“And I’ll honor my commitment to you. This won’t be a staged wedding. You’ll truly become my legal wife.”

“As long as you say yes, you’ll have every privilege that belongs to the Donna of the Vitale family. I won’t mistreat you.”

“Think it over carefully. I won’t force you. I know it’s a lot to ask.”

I answered without hesitation.

“I will.”
