I’ve Been Suspicious Since The Day I Was Born Chapter 04

“I think you’re just bored and letting your mind run wild! You’re confined to your room—no phone, no computer. You’ll stay there until you come to your senses!”

He shoved me into the room and slammed the door. I heard the lock click.

Outside, his muffled rage, my mom’s sigh, Mrs. Shaw and Nina’s sobs.

I leaned against the cold wood and listened to them fade.

The room had no windows. Just a dim light overhead, staring down like an eye.

They thought they could trap me?

They thought taking my phone and computer would stop me?

Too naive.

A true paranoid never puts her safety in things that can’t be trusted—like people’s hearts, or family bonds.

I looked around.

Good. My things were still there.

The micro-camera on the bookshelf pointed at the door.

The voice recorder in the lamp had caught every word from the living room.

Behind the air vent, another camera watched over the whole room.

Mrs. Shaw and Nina thought they were slick.

They had no idea.

I’m so suspicious I don’t even trust this house.

I’ve hidden cameras everywhere. Every corner has an eye.

I walked to my desk and opened the bottom drawer.

It was empty. I tapped the false bottom and slid out a backup phone and a miniature tool kit.

Full signal.

I didn’t call the police. Not yet.

Everyone would just think I’d lost it.

I was waiting for the right moment to expose their sweet act for what it really was.

The days of confinement were quieter than I expected.

Or maybe it was just the calm before the storm.
