Before Alessio, Matteo, or Dario could move, I yanked the blanket off the bed, exposing their

naked, tangled bodies to the harsh light spilling in from the hallway.

Rafe’s face drained of color. He threw himself over Gianna and roared.

“Nina! What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Aaaah!”

Gianna clutched the sheet to her chest, curling into Rafe’s side, sobbing hysterically.

My hand was on my chest, breath ragged. My voice came out raw.

you call “I’m the crazy one? You’re my husband, Rafe, and you’re in bed with my sister. What do

that?”

Rafe’s jaw tightened, scrambling for a lie.

“There was a storm last night. Thunder. Gianna got scared and called me over.”

Gianna’s face was chalk–white. She dragged the blanket around herself, trembling against him,

sobbing.

“Nina, I’m so sorry… last night I just… I was so scared, I called Rafe and begged him to come…”

Alessio stepped into the room.

“Rafe was completely wasted last night. He probably passed out and woke up disoriented.”

Matteo backed him up.

“It’s completely normal. Gianna used to get scared all the time. He was just comforting her and it

got out of hand.”

I turned to Dario.

He forced an uncomfortable smile. “They’re right, Nina. Gianna would never do something like

that.”

Why?

Why did they all take her side, every single time, without thinking?

I was shaking with rage. I held up my phone.

“I recorded everything from last night. Every sound. Want me to play it for my brothers to hear exactly how he comforted her?”

The color drained from Gianna’s face. Her breathing went shallow and fast.

“Alessio… I can’t… I can’t breathe.”

“Still faking it?”

Alessio shoved me back so hard my knees hit the floor.

I lay there, hand pressed to my chest, staring up at him.

“Don’t look at me like that! If you hadn’t started this, Gianna wouldn’t be collapsing right now!”

He scooped Gianna up and rushed her to the medical wing.

“Bring Nina in. We need her blood. Now!”

Matteo and Dario grabbed me and dragged me into the clinic.

Panic swallowed me whole. I was shaking, thrashing, trying to kick myself backward with whatever

strength my legs still had, shaking my head over and over.

“Please… please don’t…”

Dario prepared a large syringe while Rafe held my arm down. He wouldn’t meet my eyes.

“This is your fault. You’re the one who set her off. Giving her a little blood is the least you can do.”

Matteo stepped forward and held my shoulders down.

One look at their faces and I knew. Fighting was pointless.

I shut my eyes and held out my arm.

My voice was barely a whisper.

“Take it. Drain me dry if you want. Whatever it takes to save your precious Gianna.”

Dario turned his face away and placed his hand over my eyes. When he spoke, his voice was

empty.

“Shh, it’s okay. It’s just a little blood. It won’t hurt much.”

An hour later, Alessio had stabilized Gianna. All four of them exhaled at once.

Alessio pulled off his surgical mask. His voice was ice.

“Now we deal with you. You’re going to answer for what you did to Gianna.”

They turned around, and every face changed at once.

I was on the bed beside them. Curled up. Not moving.

A scalpel was buried in my chest.

A dark pool spread beneath me, spilling across the floor…
