The Subtitles Told Me I’d Be Thrown Into the Sea—So I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 06

“Stop it! Both of you, stop!”

The police officers came and took all three of us to the station.

Jason threw the first punch. If Henry didn’t drop the charges, Jason could end up behind bars. Neither of them would back down. They were both looking at jail time.

I was so done. “Fine. You two stay here. I’m going home.”

“Wait.” Jason looked up at me. “Do you really hate me that much?”

The hurt on his face made my chest ache.

The words tumbled out. “You have Jenna. Why come after me? You hugged her. She decorated that penthouse. Had all of this just been some kind of game to you?”

“Let’s just part ways peacefully. No more drama. Let’s stay civil.”

Jason’s eyes widened. He clenched his fists and was about to explain when I turned to Henry. “Henry, please. For my sake. Drop it.”

Henry agreed. We signed the settlement. I got into Henry’s car and gave him my parents’ address. Jason stood there in the cold wind behind us, looking utterly pitiful as the gusts swept past.

The subtitles appeared again.

[What’s wrong with Jason? Why isn’t he with Jenna?]

[By now in the story, he should have slept with her! Where’s my big heroine energy?]

[OMG he’s still obsessed with the villainess. What kind of spell did she cast?]

[Wait… is he crying? He went home and hugged the clothes she left behind. He’s so in love!]

[Actually… Abby didn’t really do anything wrong. She gave him money to save his company when he was at his lowest. How did this happen?]

I looked away. It felt… unreal.

When we got to my place, I thanked Henry and was about to get in the elevator when he called out.

“Abby. Are you really done with him?”

I hesitated. He raised an eyebrow.

“Give me a chance. Let me chase you.”

I froze. Then my phone lit up.

“Don’t say yes!”

It was Jason. I turned and saw a black sedan parked by the curb.

I looked down for a long time. Finally, I spoke up.

“Henry… I’d just gotten out of a relationship..”

“I know. No rush. I’ll wait. Get some sleep.”

He ruffled my hair. I went into the elevator in a daze.

I didn’t sleep all night. The next morning, when I opened the door, Jason was standing there. His eyes were bloodshot, his face exhausted.

“Let’s get married. I don’t care who else wants you. I just want you. Okay?”

“Nothing happened between me and Jenna. I swear.”

“That day in the office, I didn’t know you were coming. She cornered me and insisted I try her pastries. She spilled it on my shirt, then tried to wipe it off. I pushed her away. She just threw herself at me anyway. That’s what you saw.”

“Here’s the security footage. I got it back. I only found out recently someone deleted it. I hired a tech to recover it.”

He shoved his phone in my face. The video showed exactly what he said. And after I left, he shoved her hard and demanded that she pay for the ruined shirt.

Jenna had begged him, saying she could help win me back. That’s the only reason he let her decorate the penthouse.

And she’d saved the temporary code on her own. That’s how she got in.

I stared at the screen, frowning. Jason took my hand.

“Abby, I only want you. Don’t break up with me. Please. I’ll give you anything.”

“I’d hand over the entire company. I’d put all my assets under your name. Whatever you want.”

He even pulled out a share transfer agreement.

I was stunned. The floating lines before my eyes went wild.
