The CEO Confessed In Delivery Room While I Bled Out Chapter 07

“Are you insane?”

Vanessa and my parents shot up before Caleb could even react. All three of them stared at me like

I’d lost my mind.

Vanessa’s face burned red. “Eighty percent? Why don’t you just rob him blind? The house, the

money, Caleb earned every dollar of it. What gives you the right to take the biggest share?”

My mom slammed her hand on the table and pointed her finger inches from my face.

“Exactly! You ungrateful brat. You’ve been living off him, spending his money since you married

him, and now you want to take everything he has?”

“Vanessa is carrying his son. You’d really cut off his future, you vicious thing?”

My dad’s face went purple. He jabbed a finger at me.

“Listen, Elena. Don’t you even think about it. One house is more than enough. Take your worthless

daughter and get the hell out.”

Caleb finally looked up.

His eyes swept over them like ice. They all shut their mouths.

But I didn’t scream or cry or throw things this time.

I did what Vanessa always did. I dropped my gaze, bit my lip, and let my eyelashes flutter.

Tears spilled down my cheeks. Soft. Pitiful. Heartbroken.

“Vanessa, I thought you said you were with Caleb because you loved him. Why are you so upset

now? Is it about the money?”

Her face went redder. She didn’t say a word.

I turned to Caleb with wet eyes. “I’m not as good at making money as you, Caleb. You’ll earn back

eighty percent in two years.”

“But me? I haven’t worked in years. I have a daughter to raise. How am I supposed to survive?”

“I could give you Lily. But can you really take care of her? You have Vanessa now. You have her

baby on the way.”

“What if something happens to Lily? What if she gets sick again and you’re not there? How could I

live with myself?”

I was crying so hard I could barely breathe.

Caleb’s heart visibly cracked. The cold in his eyes melted into something soft and helpless.

He reached out and wiped my tears like it was instinct. “Don’t cry, Elena. I never said no.”

“Full custody is yours. And I’ll give you ninety percent. I owe you and Lily that much.”

I looked down. In the corner of my mouth, where no one could see, I smiled.

My plan had worked.

Guilt was all I needed. Guilt got me everything.

I didn’t expect him to offer ninety percent, though.

Maybe he really did care about me and Lily. Somewhere deep down.

But what did that matter?

Not as much as what was in his pants.

Vanessa’s face went completely white. She bit her p, said nothing, then flopped onto the couch

holding her stomach and moaning.

Caleb frowned. He took her to the hospital with my parents.

I sat alone on the couch and closed my tired eyes.

The next day, Caleb and I went to the courthouse.

One month waiting period.

The day we signed, he stopped at the door. “Are you sure about this, Elena? Once the papers are

filed, there’s no going back.”

I was afraid he’d change his mind about the money I pointed at Vanessa waiting by the car,

watching us with hungry eyes. I smiled.

“Cut things off with her first, Caleb. Completely. And get rid of the baby. I don’t do stepkids.”

He didn’t say another word.

But his fingers shook when he signed. Three times before he got his name right.

Outside the courthouse, he grabbed my arm. His voice was wrecked. “Elena, if you or Lily ever

need anything, call me. I’m still her father. And I’m still someone you can trust.”

I smiled and tucked the divorce papers into my bag

“Sure. Come see Lily whenever you want.”

But inside, I was screaming.

No, Caleb.

I’m taking Lily far away from here.

Having you as a father would be her greatest shame.

And I will never tell you where we go.

A week later, the asset division was finalized.

Before I left, I sent one text to my parents.

[Mom and Dad. This is the last time I’ll ever call you that. I’m leaving. I used to think I wasn’t good enough for you to love. That I wasn’t obedient enough.

Now I finally understand. It was never my fault. It was always yours. I don’t forgive you. I never will.]

Then I picked up Lily and walked away without looking back.
