The CEO Confessed In Delivery Room While I Bled Out Chapter 06

“Elena, don’t be hasty.”

I expected him to look relieved. To say yes right away. To move Vanessa and her pregnant belly

into my house before the ink dried.

But his face didn’t relax. He frowned and reached for my wrist, desperate. “Lily isn’t out of danger

yet. Let’s focus on her first. We can talk about divorce when she’s better. Okay?”

I pulled away.

He mentioned Lily. I looked at the marks on his neck. The irony made me want to laugh.

“No,” I said. “I look at you and I feel sick. The only reason I stayed with you was for Lily. I didn’t want

her to grow up without a father. But you know what? A father like you? She’s better off with none.”

Everything I’d been holding in came pouring out. I pointed at the ICU doors, my voice cracking.

“You have the nerve to talk about her?”

“Where were you last night when she was dying? You were in Vanessa’s bed. I begged you to come

home. You didn’t even hang up the phone. Was it that good, Caleb? You’re disgusting.”

He dropped his head.

The CEO swagger was gone. All of it.

I was too tired to scream anymore. I closed my eyes. “I’m letting you go, Caleb. You should let me

go too.”

“Think about Vanessa’s baby. Isn’t that what you want? A son? I can’t give you one anymore. She

can.”

He kept his voice calm, like he was explaining something to a child. “I don’t look down on

daughters, Elena. Lily is my baby. I love her.”

I turned away. I couldn’t look at his face anymore.

“You want to know something, Caleb? If Lily had died last night? I would have killed you. I would have killed Vanessa. And I would have killed that thing she’s carrying. All three of you would have gone with her.”

He saw it in my eyes. The hate. The truth.

He shut his mouth.

A long silence. Then he said, “Fine. If it means you’ll hate me less. I’ll sign.”

Lily left the ICU that afternoon.

Caleb didn’t leave her side the whole time. Vanessa called a few times. He didn’t pick up.

On the third day, the doctor said Lily was stable enough to go home.

I picked her up. Caleb reached for her. “You’ve been running on empty for days. Let me carry her.”

I turned away, my voice cold. “No. I don’t want Vanessa to show up in something see through and have

you drop my daughter while you run to her.”

Pain flashed across his face. His voice shook. “Elena, please. Don’t talk like that.”

I didn’t even look at him. My focus was completely on my daughter.

We drove home in silence. Vanessa and my parents were waiting on the porch. They’d been there for hours.

The second Vanessa saw Caleb, she ran to him, all sweet and whiny. “Caleb, where have you been? I’ve been looking for you for days. You didn’t answer my calls.”

He didn’t hold her like he used to. He just rubbed his eyes, exhausted. “Vanessa. Mom. Dad. Go home. Elena and I need to talk.”

They didn’t move.

I walked inside and printed the papers my lawyer had drafted. I put them on the coffee table.

“My terms, Caleb. Full custody of Lily. Eighty percent of the assets. Twenty for you.”
