The CEO Confessed In Delivery Room While I Bled Out Chapter 05

Lily’s birthday started with rain. It poured all day and didn’t stop when the sun went down.

By midnight, Caleb still wasn’t home. Lily spiked a fever. I gave her medicine, but it didn’t help.

Something felt wrong in my gut.

The storm had flooded the roads. No cabs were running.

911 said the water was too deep. Three hours, at least.

I called him anyway.

Before I could even speak, Vanessa’s moans came through the line.

“Easy, Caleb. Be careful. The baby.”

His voice was low and rough. “You like it slow, huh? That get you off? Sleeping with your sister’s

husband?”

“God, yes. Wait. It’s Elena. Pick up.”

There were no tears left in me.

I bit my tongue and forced myself to stay calm. “Caleb, I don’t care what you’re doing. Get home

now. Lily has a fever. The ambulance can’t get through.”

He was breathing hard, annoyed. “Elena, I know you’re angry, but don’t make up excuses.”

“I stayed away from Vanessa for a whole month. I can’t help it anymore. Just let me have this one

night. I’ll be home tomorrow.”

“Vanessa, don’t tense up like that.”

Then Lily had a seizure in my arms. Her face turned purple, foam spilling from her mouth.

I lost my mind. “Caleb, I’m not lying. She’s really sick. She’s dying. Please come home. Please.”

I was crying, begging, screaming into the phone.

Then I heard it hit the floor. They didn’t even bother hanging up.

Moaning. Wet sounds. Breathing.

I was disgusted. I was terrified.

I ran out into the storm with Lily in my arms. I went door to door on my knees, begging.

Finally, an old woman said yes. She drove us through the flood.

They rushed Lily into the ER.

The doctor said it was a febrile seizure. Another hour, and she would have been gone.

I sat on the floor outside the pediatric ICU all night.

Caleb showed up the next morning.

There were scratches on his neck, hickeys still fresh. He looked like he actually felt guilty.

He reached for me. “I’m sorry. A neighbor told me this morning she was really sick. I came as soon

as I heard…”

“I want a divorce.”

He froze.

“But I have conditions.”
