Betrayed On My Wedding Eve Chapter 20

After that, we fell into orbit around each other fast.

Julian was well-liked at the camp. He was a brilliant doctor, calm under pressure, and genuinely funny. He made people around him laugh without even trying.

I loved being around him.

Even the people I interviewed opened up more when he was there.

One day, we were out spraying cholera-prevention solution in the camp when a cry came from an empty tent. I pushed inside. A man on top of a girl, tearing at her clothes.

I went cold. I shoved him off.

He came at me, swinging.

Julian pulled me behind him and held up his ID badge.

“If you’d like anyone to treat you when you’re sick, you’ll leave. Now.”

The man looked at the red cross. Cursed and scrambled out.

We brought the girl to the UNHCR office and asked them to find her a different shelter.

When it was done, Julian put a hand on my shoulder.

“Hey. You did good.”

I blinked. “I’m fine.”

Violence at the camps was something I’d known to expect.

He tilted his head.

“You don’t look fine.”

I stopped. Touched my own face.

Then he grinned and grabbed my cheeks.

“Your feelings aren’t only on your face!”
