My Husband Was Gone for Three Years, and Both My Mother-in-Law and I Got Pregnant Chapter 05

When I called Kevin, he didn’t sound surprised at all.

“You’re about six weeks along, right? It must have happened the night before I left.”

His voice remained calm.

The floating comments appeared.

[Amelia finally won Kevin over! I knew it. How could he not fall for someone like her?]

[She’s pregnant too!]

[Wait, when did that happen?]

[That night when Amelia took his towel into the bathroom. Right there. Hehe.]

I finally understood.

Amelia was pregnant too.

No wonder Kevin sounded so calm when I told him about mine.

My child might not have been his, but the baby would still call him Uncle.

Shouldn’t he have been happy?

“I’ll have Mom come over early to take care of you,” Kevin said. “I’ll wire more money for the pregnancy.”

After he hung up, another $200,000 appeared in our joint household account.

I swallowed the word divorce before it could leave my mouth.

“Didn’t you promise you’d tell my brother everything and divorce him?”

When Dylan heard that I hadn’t mentioned divorce, he became so angry that he tried to call Kevin himself.

I grabbed his arm.

“Don’t be impulsive.”

“Kevin won’t be back for more than two years. If I tell him now, what if he comes home and tries to pressure me into terminating the pregnancy?”

“I should have the baby first. Once Kevin returns, he’ll have no choice but to divorce me.”

Kevin had betrayed me, but he was generous with money.

Dylan had only recently started his business and earned far less than Kevin.

Children were expensive.

I had to plan ahead.

Ever since Dylan and I got together, he had become increasingly possessive.

He threw away all Kevin’s toiletries and replaced every piece of clothing in the closet with his own. Our neighbors assumed I had remarried and moved in a new husband.

A few days later, Margaret flew in from Florida.

She was a retired high school literature teacher. She had originally planned to finish tutoring one last student before moving into the penthouse with me.

But the moment she heard I was pregnant, she abandoned everything and got on a plane.

Then again, whether the baby belonged to Dylan or Kevin made little difference to her.

Either way, it was her biological grandchild.

Her arrival made life difficult for Dylan.

He had grown used to the two of us living like husband and wife.

“Alison, are you asleep?”

Half awake, I heard someone whisper outside my room in the middle of the night.

I opened the door in the dark, and Dylan pulled me into his arms.

His kisses moved from my lips to my collarbone.

“Be careful with the baby.” I dug my nails into his back.

He bit lightly at my neck and mumbled, “I only want a little taste. I won’t do anything.”

Once Dylan had finally gotten a taste of me, his appetite spiraled out of control.

Before my pregnancy, he had wanted me at least twice a day. He had been holding himself back for weeks, and now he had sneaked in while his mother slept.

“Alison, you smell so good.”

He bent his head and kissed my neck.

Just as we lost ourselves in it, the bedroom door flew open.

“Alison! My son isn’t home, and you’re cheating on him?”

Margaret stood in the doorway with one hand on her hip and the other pressed against the light switch.
