Betrayed Twice, I Pretended Amnesia To Take Revenge On My Alpha Mate And Sister Chapter 06

The lead healer shook his head slightly.

“The physical injuries aren’t the worst of it. But her will to live is dangerously weak. If that doesn’t change, I can’t promise anything.”

The healing witch, Morganae, walked to the operating table and leaned close to my ear, speaking in

a low voice.

“Haley Cinder, you once asked me how to truly get better,” she said softly.

“Back then, you didn’t want to be a burden to Clarence, and I didn’t answer you. Now I will.”

Her voice stayed low and steady, cutting through the darkness inside me.

“It starts when you stop making your mate your emotional crutch. You are your own savior.”

“I don’t know what happened to you, but death isn’t redemption. It’s just another way of running.”

“Live. If you lose, so what–get up and try again. As long as you’re still breathing, there’s hope.”

“The world doesn’t end because they don’t love you. Wake up, Haley. Fight.”

The heart monitor spiked.

As if the she-wolf who had given up on herself reached out in that moment and grabbed hold of life

again.

On the operating table, my eyelashes trembled–the smallest possible response.

Three days after surgery, I woke up.

Clarence, who had kept vigil at my bedside for three days and three nights, shot to his feet the

moment my eyes opened, questions pouring out of him.

“Haley, you’re awake. Does it hurt anywhere? Should I call the healer? Talk to me, baby.”

Hatred filled every corner of my heart. Under the blanket, my hand curled into a fist.

But I showed none of it on the surface. I just shook my head, wearing deliberate confusion.

“Who are you?”

Clarence went still.

Then enormous joy broke across his face.

During the time he had waited for me to wake, he must have rehearsed a thousand apologies and a

thousand lies to cover what he had done.

He had even prepared himself to grovel and beg for my forgiveness if that was what it took.

The one thing he hadn’t expected was a reset button: complete memory loss.

He tried to hide his excitement.

“I’m your mate,” he said carefully.

“We completed our marking last week. The mating ceremony is in a few days.”

Then he paused and added, “A few days ago, you went up to the roof to absorb moonlight essence and accidentally fell. You just had surgery. Once you’ve recovered, we’ll hold the ceremony right

away.”

Where he couldn’t see, the corner of my mouth curved into a mocking arc.

A moment later, I looked at him with the stubborn expression of someone who had been spoiled by him for too long. “Really? What proof do you have?”

He immediately looked flustered.

The most obvious proof would be the bonding contract, witnessed by the pack priest before the mating ceremony.

Only he didn’t know where I had put it.

My family could vouch for us too, but the woman he cheated with was my sister.

And my parents were still waiting for him to give Bethany an explanation.

Watching him stand there with nothing to say, I pressed my hand to my head and pretended something was surfacing.

“I think I remember something,” I said slowly.

“Someone pushed me in the garden after it rained. I think the bonding contract–the one our priest witnessed–fell on the ground too…”

The moment he heard that, guilt flooded his face.

He cleared his throat. “No one will ever hurt you again, Haley. I know where it is now. I’ll go back to

the pack house and find it.”

I smiled and nodded.

Then, the second he walked out of the room, the smile vanished.

Clarence had no idea.

He rushed back to the pack house and stood in the spot where I had hit the ground.

He felt the belated guilt arrive.

Driven by it, he slapped himself across the face.

After that, he started digging through the backyard with his bare hands, as if brute force alone

could unearth that contract.

But even as blood began seeping from his fingertips, he couldn’t find it.

In the end, he had no choice but to call in his Beta and several guards to search the entire pack

house.

A full day and night later, he finally found it under the bed in the room where I had jumped–the

room he had locked me in.

The bonding contract was crumpled, stained with wet marks.

Those were my tears, shed when he had made my chest ache so badly I couldn’t breathe.

When Clarence brought it back to me, he thought I would believe him now.

Instead, I got angrier.
