He Chose Her, I Took Back Everything Chapter 08

Helena’s POV

“Chloe, you’re insane.”

The friend’s voice dropped to a whisper.

But Chloe sounded triumphant. “If I didn’t have guts, I wouldn’t have totaled three of her cars on purpose.

“You should’ve seen Helena’s face when she saw that Cullinan. I thought she was going to explode.”

She cackled.

“And Mr. Reed bought it every time. He still thinks they were all accidents.”

“What can I say? When you’ve got an Alpha wrapped around your finger, you can get away with anything.”

“No risk, no reward. Once Helena’s out of the picture, everything she has becomes mine.”

The recording ended. I smiled.

Perfect. I’d beat her at her own game.

That night, Chloe called.

“Mrs. Reed. Can we meet? I want to talk about how I’m going to pay you back.”

I didn’t hesitate. “Sure. You pick the time and place.”

Chloe texted me the details within minutes.

I forwarded the recording, the time, and the location straight to the Council Enforcers. At the same time, I

had a Voss Pack mechanic track down the Phantom for a preliminary inspection.

The Enforcers would be posted nearby, waiting for Chloe to walk me right into the trap.

Once everything was in place, I went to find Caleb.

Vanessa spotted me and started in immediately. “Helena, I can’t believe you have the nerve to show your

face!”

I slapped her across the face. “Get out.”

“Caleb!”

He came out of the living room, moving fast. He looked terrible, his Alpha scent thin and subdued, nothing

like the Alpha who used to fill a room.

“Chloe wants to meet tomorrow. She might give back the car. I’ll call you when it’s time. I need you there to

drive it home for me.”

The quilt did the work for me. He agreed instantly.

“Done. I’ll be there. Don’t worry.”

Vanessa was still fuming. “Who do you think you are, ordering Caleb around?”

I crossed my arms. “Get out. Now. Or I’ll do more than talk.”

“You wouldn’t dare hit me again. Who do you think you are?”

I slapped her again. The crack echoed through the living room.

Vanessa cupped her cheek, eyes welling up. “Caleb! She hit me! Are you just going to stand there?!”

Caleb snapped. “Shut up! You’re the one who can’t keep your mouth shut. Helena’s severed the bond, and you

and Mom and Dad are a big reason why!”

Vanessa’s jaw dropped. “How is this my fault? Wait, she’s actually rejected you?”

She called Caleb’s parents. They were out somewhere, but the second they heard the word severance, they

raced home.

Caleb’s mother barely got through the door before she was in my face.

“Helena. What is wrong with you? Why on earth would you throw away a perfectly good mating? You really

want to give all this up?”

“Yes.” My voice was flat. “Whoever wants this life can have it. I’m done.”

“You think anyone will want you after a divorce? Once you’ve been a rejected mate, no respectable Alpha

family will touch you.”

I almost laughed in her face.

“Ms. Reed. I’m Helena Voss, sole heir to the Voss Pack Bank. My name is on global wealth lists. If I go back

on the market, the line of Alphas waiting for me will stretch across continents.”

Her face had gone stiff. I kept going.

“Your son, on the other hand, a rejected Alpha with nothing to his name? Maybe worry about him.”

Caleb’s mother bristled. “My son is no slouch. His company is about to go public!”

I didn’t raise my voice. “It won’t.”

“The Voss Pack Bank pulls the credit line, and in less than three days, Reed Group goes under.”

“Impossible!” Her voice shot up. “That company exists because of my son’s talent! You’re acting like the whole thing depends on you!”

I was done explaining. “Then let’s see what happens.”

The next day, I headed to the café Chloe picked. The location was clever. There was barely any parking for

blocks.

She ordered me a coffee. I didn’t touch it.

Chloe was dressed demurely today, soft colors, modest neckline. Playing the part. The second she saw me,

she put on that wounded look.

“Mrs. Reed. I need a few more days. I’ve pulled together most of it, but I’m still a little short.”

She bit her lip, as if steeling herself.

“How about this? I’ll give the car back. Whatever it’s worth now, even as a used vehicle, you set the price. I’ll

pay the difference out of pocket.”

She sold it well. If I hadn’t heard that recording, I might actually have believed her.

I leaned back in my chair and let her finish the performance.

“But I don’t want the car. I want the money.”
